OPEN LETTER TO STELLENBOSCH MUNICIPALITY
Molweni Bethuna,
We would like to extend our deepest condolences and support to all families affected by the devastating fire that took place on Sunday, 08 February 2026, in Kayamandi.
This tragedy has left many community members displaced, traumatised, and in urgent need of assistance. As Molweni Bethuna NPC, we are heartbroken by the impact this has had on our people, and we stand in solidarity with every family trying to rebuild after such a painful loss.
Molweni Bethuna NPC is a youth-led organisation based in Kayamandi, committed to uplifting and supporting our community through meaningful action. Over the past few months, we have actively contributed to relief efforts in areas affected by fires, providing donations, food and support where possible. Most recently, we also launched a schoolbook covering project for learners, ensuring that young people are equipped and supported as they return to school.
In light of this recent tragedy, we would love to play an active role in assisting affected families once again. However, the scale of this disaster requires collective effort and stronger support.
We therefore humbly request assistance from the Stellenbosch Municipality in partnering with us to provide much-needed relief to the victims of this fire. With municipal support, we can strengthen our efforts and ensure that families receive essential items, support services, and hope during this difficult time.
Kayamandi is our home, and as young leaders, we believe in coming together to restore dignity and care for those in need. We are ready to serve; we simply ask that the municipality walks with us in giving back to the community.
We look forward to your response and to working together for the people of Kayamandi.
With sincerity,
Molweni Bethuna NPC
Youth-led. Community-driven. Compassion in action.
