β οΈ WEATHER WARNING β OVERBERG REGION β οΈ
The South African Weather Service has issued severe weather warnings for the Overberg and surrounding Western Cape regions from 10β12 May 2026, with heavy rainfall, strong winds, flooding, rough seas, and extremely cold conditions expected.
Residents are urged to take precautionary measures immediately.
β οΈ Risks include:
β’ Flooding of roads, low-lying areas, rivers, and bridges
β’ Mudslides and falling trees
β’ Dangerous driving conditions and possible road closures
β’ Gale-force winds and rough sea conditions
β’ Severe cold and exposure risks for vulnerable people and animals
π΄ππ ANIMAL SAFETY WARNING
Special care should be taken for animals living outdoors, including horses, livestock, pets, and wildlife.
Expected conditions may lead to:
β’ Hypothermia due to prolonged cold rain and wind
β’ Exposure and exhaustion in young, elderly, or injured animals
β’ Flooding of camps, paddocks, shelters, and low-lying grazing areas
β’ Flying debris and falling branches causing injury
β’ Disrupted access to food and clean water
Owners are strongly advised to:
β’ Move animals to sheltered or higher ground where possible
β’ Provide windbreaks, dry bedding, and extra feed
β’ Ensure access to clean drinking water
β’ Check fences, drainage, and shelters before the storm arrives
β’ Avoid leaving animals tied or confined in flood-prone areas
β’ Monitor vulnerable animals regularly throughout the storm period
