🔥🚨Fire Update - 12th January
Last night, during an emergency evacuation, the fire turned without warning.
While relocating bees away from danger the wind shifted suddenly, forcing our team to evacuate under extreme conditions. We came close to losing our bakkie and heartbreakingly, we lost two apiaries 💔. Losing bees is something that never gets easier. It’s devastating.
At the same time, we’re holding deeply mixed emotions. Immense relief that hundreds of hives were moved to safety, and profound sadness for the bees we couldn’t save.🐝😢
This past week has pushed our team to the limit. For days on end, they have operated with little to no sleep, fighting fires, relocating hives and supporting fellow beekeepers and farmers across the area. Their resilience, courage and commitment to protecting the bees has been nothing short of extraordinary.
To our wonderful community, thank you. The messages, calls, offers of help and kindness have meant the world to us and carried us through some incredibly difficult moments. 🙏
This is not something we ask lightly. The past week has placed us under immense financial pressure and we are very aware that there are many worthy organisations also in need of support right now..
If you feel called to help Honeybee Heroes through this incredibly challenging time, please message us directly and we’ll share our donation link.🙏💛🐝
To the landowners who have offered to host our hives, thank you. We haven’t reached out to everyone yet, but we will be in touch very soon once we’ve found our feet again.
Thank you for standing with us. 🐝
