Making waves with art

Crayons, sponges and stencils came together to create an ocean of creativity at the Masakhane Hub in Gansbaai with our visual arts group, guided by local artist Antje Shone from Whale Song Lodge.

So much can be done with a simple paper plate.

Creativity doesn’t need to be complicated or expensive. Everyday and recyclable materials can become beautiful, imaginative creations when children are given the freedom to explore.
It’s about developing creativity, confidence and problem-solving skills, and appreciating using what we already have.

Celebrating Women’s Day: 9 August 2026

The visual arts group, under the guidance of local artist Antje Shone, explored the theme 'Women's Day' by creating silhouette portraits, while learning what a silhouette is. Through art, they reflected on the importance of recognising and celebrating the women in our lives.

The visual art group at Masakhane Hub is exploring creativity with local artist, Antje Shone from Whalesong Lodge.

The children designed their own shoe concepts, developing design skills while expressing their unique personalities and creative flair.

Holiday programme at The Learning Tree in Stanford.

The children love getting creative with paper mâché, using recycled egg boxes and paper to create beautiful things.

At our Masakhane Art Group, community art facilitator, Nombulelo, guided the children through a colorful collage-making session. Each child expressed their own unique story, creativity and imagination. Children are natural artists – each one beautiful, valuable and wonderfully unique.
