Hey Stanford Residents, do you know which security sector you live in?

The Stanford Neighbourhood Watch works with 4 distinct sectors, as represented in the below image.

Each sector is operated via a Whatsapp group, which is managed by a sector leader. These groups are used strictly for security notifications, alerts, and reports.

We would like to encourage as many people as possible to join their local sector group, as we continue to work together to keep Stanford a safe and secure place for all.

Please contact Richard Opperman on 082 519 6578 to be added to your sector's WhatsApp group.

- JUNIOR NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH VOLUNTEERS EMBARK ON TRAINING PROGRAM TO STRENGTHEN COMMUNITY SAFETY -

-Stanford Village, Overberg.
They say it takes a village! And today, the Stanford Neighbourhood Watch proudly announces the commencement of a security initiative, in conjunction with SAPS, aimed at empowering the youth to actively participate in community safety. Meet the up-and-coming, Junior Stanford Neighbourhood Watch team!

On Tuesday April 2, 2024, twenty enthusiastic young individuals kickstarted their journey as Junior Neighbourhood Watch volunteers, marking the dawn of a new era in our community.

Under the expert guidance of Fagrodien Johnson, from POCS (Police Oversight and Community Safety), and Richard Opperman of the Stanford Neighbourhood Watch, these promising individuals received comprehensive training encompassing the Neighbourhood Watch Code of Conduct and all pertinent protocols, policies, and procedures integral to Stanford Neighbourhood Watch's operations.

Our hosts, The Nest Meeting Room, provided a warm and welcoming environment, for which we extend our heartfelt gratitude.

This inaugural training session marks the first of many to come, symbolising our commitment to nurturing a generation of proactive young adults dedicated to making a difference in our community. Spearheaded by Furlin Titus, these aspiring volunteers will fall directly under the Stanford Neighbourhood Watch, and will gradually transition into more involved roles, guided every step of the way by existing members.

This initiative not only creates avenues for personal growth but also fosters a sense of responsibility and empowerment among our youth, igniting a collective passion for safeguarding our community and shaping its future.

"We are thrilled to witness the launch of this initiative and eagerly anticipate its growth and impact on our community," remarked Opperman, "Together, we are laying the groundwork for a safer, more resilient future, driven by the dedication and enthusiasm of our Junior Neighbourhood Watch volunteers."

As we embark on this journey together, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to all those who have contributed to the realisation of this vision.

With solid commitment and collective effort, we are poised to transform challenges into opportunities, fortifying the bonds that unite us as neighbours and guardians of our beloved Stanford community.

Dear Stanfordians, below is a community security update - thank you to those working tirelessly behind the scenes and on the front lines to keep our community safe. 🙏

RE: ADMINISTRATIVE SWITCH-OVER STANFORD SECURITY

As community safety and personal safety is of paramount importance to us we have had to review all existing and old infrastructure in the functioning and operation response of service to the greater Stanford Valley. A revamp was done and new modern systems and technology have been implemented for us to achieve this
Safe Stanford was purchased by Bert Du Toit in 2020. In an attempt to improve the service delivery to our clients, it was found that this was neither possible nor effective if we did not have a direct and secure communication to and from our clients.
Currently, our clients are dependent on a Safe Hermanus control room should their alarm go off or require additional assistance. Safe Hermanus in turn, contacts Stanford Safe Armed Response or office to attend to the query. We found that there is a delay in the response should we not deal directly with the client. With a few incidents in the rural areas specifically, we found that poor or adequate communication between all parties involved led to confusion and often none of the required co-ordination to ensure a reduced response time and community safety.
As Safe Stanford we were prohibited from having our own operations room and therefore had no option but to register a separate company, Stanford Security Services (SSS), with the regulatory body PSIRA.
Stanford Security Services now has a fully functioning operations room with CCTV monitoring. We obtained and installed our own radio repeaters to cover the entire Stanford Valley area and beyond for our radio communications network. As our approach to crime is to be preventative and pro-active, we have established new stronger relationships with the SAPS, Law-Enforcement, Fire Department and various other role players such as the Community Policing Forum.
Stanford Security Services has also been appointed as the preferred service provider for KROW (Klein Rivier Overwatch) through an extensive and comprehensive Service Level Agreement (SLA).
Our operations room will be monitoring the 10 x LPR (Licence Plate Recognition) Cameras in conjunction with KROW, which are being installed all around Stanford shortly.
You are welcome to visit us at our offices at Red Rooster Farm on the R326, on the right just before Stanhaven where we can show you our operations room and operational functionality.
We will be migrating all our existing SAFE clients, at no cost, to the new Stanford Security Services as part of our comprehensive Community Safety Drive going forward.
Yours

Bert du Toit/Gavin Horne

Although we’re still under lockdown there have been incidents of people asking for assistance door to door. Given our close community I’m sure some people may help directly, though a preferable route would be to contribute to the mechanisms already in place to address this.

A benefit to this approach is that this will also discourage wandering which may negatively impact the purpose behind the quarantine.

Here’s some info which can be passed along to assist those looking for food -

“There are soup kitchens every day at the rugby field and taxi rank. Around 12 o'clock. Anyone can go there and get something to eat. If the person has their name on the main list of recipients they may get a food parcel. Day depends on where they live. Best for them to go to one of the soup kitchens mentioned which run Mon to Fri.”

Lana Coates and Bea Whittaker are point people for Stanford Village Foundation and Stanford Rotary, we encourage our community to contribute as is possible for everyone’s unique circumstances.

A statement was issued by Overberg District Municipality a few minutes ago:

Quick action taken after Hermanus police officer tests positive for COVID-19

The Overberg Joint Operation Centre confirms that a member of the Hermanus Police Station has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

The officer started feeling unwell recently and had himself tested without delay. The positive test results have been communicated to the station’s management, with immediate steps taken to address the situation.

According to Brigadier Donovan Heilbron, Cluster Commander of the Overberg district, “As a precautionary measure, we immediately ensured the Hermanus Police Station was evacuated. All our SAPS members from Hermanus have been informed. And we are currently decontaminating and sanitising the police station, in order to ensure it’s safe and operational as soon as possible.”

All officers who came into contact with the SAPS member have been informed and have been placed in self-quarantine. They will monitor their health over the coming days. However, none of these members have shown any symptoms of COVID-19.

Brigadier Heilbron said, “We will obviously monitor their health very closely over the coming days.”

Contact tracing continues for other members of the community who may also have come into contact with the officer. They are also now being placed in self-quarantine.

He added that the service delivery by the police continues unabated, led by those SAPS members who did not come into contact with the member in any way. “We continue to ensure a prominent police presence in the Hermanus district, and to work to keep our Overstrand residents safe during this lockdown period.”

While the Hermanus Police Station is being decontaminated, SAPS officials will continue to work from a mobile facility which is currently being set up. The station is expected to be fully operational again as soon as the decontamination and sanitation process has been completed.

Reinard Geldenhuys, Disaster Manager of the Overberg District Municipality said the Overberg district is prepared for eventualities such as this. “As the Overberg Joint Operations Centre, we know that there are risks to our law enforcement officers who stand on the frontline of this fight against the Coronavirus. We are therefore prepared for incidents such as this one. Firefighters from Overstrand, assisted by Overberg district firefighters swung into action immediately to decontaminate the whole facility.”
