Protecting rhinos takes more than one solution 🦏🌍

The Rhisotope Project isn’t here to tell you how to protect your animals, we’re here to help strengthen the protection already in place. Even dehorned rhinos can benefit from an added layer of security, provided the horn stump is more than 15cm from the base plate.

✨ 1 treatment = global detection capability ✨

Together, we can make it harder for poachers to operate and easier to protect these incredible animals for future generations.

A huge thank you to Saint Stithians Girls’ College for your incredible hard work, passion, and dedication to The Rhisotope Project. 💚🦏

Through the Rhino Relay, you raised an amazing almost R17 000 in support of rhino conservation. Your enthusiasm and commitment are helping us protect one of the world’s most endangered species and create a safer future for rhinos.

We are so grateful for every student, teacher, supporter, and participant who made this possible. Together, we are making a real difference. 🌍✨

Last night, Prof. Larkin had the honour of presenting a public talk on The Rhisotope Project at the ANSTT Conference hosted at iThemba LABS, highlighting how advanced nuclear science techniques are being applied to support rhino conservation. 🦏⚛️

We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to share our work with such distinguished institutions, researchers, and innovators who are driving meaningful scientific impact across the globe. 🌍🔬

As we launch The Next 500 Campaign, we are seeking financial support to help move closer to protecting more rhinos through innovative conservation technology. 🤝✨

The first regional workshop for The Rhisotope Project is officially done and dusted! 🎉🦏

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, shared valuable insights, and helped strengthen the future of rhino conservation. From engaging discussions to collaborative ideas, it was incredible to see so many passionate stakeholders, rhino owners, reserves, and conservation partners coming together with one common goal, protecting our rhinos for generations to come.

We’re excited for what lies ahead and grateful to everyone who made this workshop such a success!

‼️Even dehorned rhinos are not safe‼️

Recent poaching incidents in Kruger National Park are a stark reminder that removing a rhino’s horn is not a complete solution. Poachers often target dehorned animals for the remaining stump, believing it still holds value on the illegal wildlife market. The result is continued brutality against already vulnerable animals.

This is why awareness around The Rhisotope Project is so critical. By embedding safe, detectable radioisotopes into rhino horns, the project helps law enforcement identify trafficked horns at borders and transport hubs, disrupt illegal supply chains, and create a powerful deterrent to poachers and traffickers alike.

The fight against wildlife crime requires more than protection on the ground. It needs collaboration, technology, and global awareness. By supporting and sharing the mission of The Rhisotope Project, we can strengthen efforts to protect rhinos, reduce poaching incentives, and safeguard one of Africa’s most iconic species for future generations.

Awareness saves lives. Science strengthens protection. Together, we can turn the tide against rhino poaching. 🦏☢️

🎉 RHINO RUN CHALLENGE – SATURDAY, 28 FEBRUARY 2026 🎉

Calling all adventurers! The St Stithians Girls’ College Environment Committee is thrilled to invite you to this year’s wild Rhino Run!

Brace yourselves for a twist: the Rhino Relay! Whether you’re a lone ranger or part of a dynamic duo, take on as many 1 km laps as you can in one hour. The faster you run, the closer you are to bagging some fabulous prizes!

This lively, family-friendly event is all about supporting The Rhisotope Project, which uses radioactive isotopes in rhino horns to keep poachers at bay and protect our precious rhinos. For every R21500 we raise, a rhino gets treated in honor of St Stithians GC. Our goal? Treat 3 rhinos! Learn more about this fantastic project here: www.rhisotope.org

Get your safari gear on, enjoy some free goodies, and dive into the buzzing atmosphere. After the race, stick around for scrumptious food, a kids’ corner, and good times with friends and family. Arrivals start at 15:30 on 28 February.

Whether you’re in it for the thrill, the cause, or just the fun, this event is a must!
