Every year on 16 June, the Day of the African Child commemorates the bravery and resilience of the children of Soweto in 1976. It also serves as a reminder to reflect on the progress made and the work still needed to uphold and protect children’s rights across Africa.

This year’s theme highlights the fact that access to clean water, safe sanitation, and proper hygiene is not a privilege it is a fundamental right for every child.
