We closed out Gynae Cancer Awareness Month the way we like to, in person. 💜

Our team visited Dora Nginza Hospital's Gynaecology & Obstetrics High Care Unit and BG-3 (Gynae ward), handing out care packages and sanitary towels to patients, and buffs and chocolates to the nurses who care for them every day.

They didn't know it was awareness month when we arrived, they just knew they were seen.

A special moment for us: one of our own team members was once a patient on this ward, and this time, she got to give back to the staff who supported her own journey.

Community is built when people come together with purpose. 💜

This weekend, Purple Project joined The M Store, Reach for Recovery and Grace upon Grace at a table hosted by The M Store for Cuppa for CANSA.

Dr Melissa Pietersen represented Purple Project on the day, sharing an afternoon filled with conversation, laughter, dance, good food and fellowship.

Guests were also treated to gifts contributed by Grace upon Grace, Purple Project, Reach for Recovery, Fahiema Frieslaar and CANSA, a small reflection of the generosity that shaped the afternoon.

For Purple Project, collaborations like these are about strengthening relationships, supporting organisations doing meaningful work, and creating spaces where community and care can meet.

Thank you to The M Store for hosting the table, and to every organisation, contributor and guest who helped make the afternoon what it was.

Sometimes awareness begins with simply being present. 💜

Purple Project recently hosted a community activation together with CANSA Shavathon, where a day of colour, energy and community created space for conversations that matter.

Alongside CANSA Shavathon activities, we were able to share more about Purple Project and the work we do around gynaecological cancer awareness, education and support.

Every conversation counts. Whether someone stopped to ask a question, picked up information, took part in the activities or simply learned something new, each interaction helps us move closer to a community where women feel informed, supported and able to speak openly about their health.

We are grateful to CANSA, the volunteers and everyone who helped create such a welcoming space.

These moments remind us why community activation matters: awareness should not only live online or in a clinic. It should be part of the places where people live, work, shop and connect.

A night worth watching back 💜

This is a beautiful reminder of just how much good is happening across Nelson Mandela Bay, captured in one video from Citizens of the Year night.

We're proud that Purple Project's win in the Health and Safety category is part of this story, but honestly, the real joy is watching alongside the other winners. This community has so many people quietly doing extraordinary work.

What a night 💜🏆

Last night, Purple Project was named the Health and Safety category winner at The Herald Citizens of the Year Awards, held at the Boardwalk International Convention Centre under this year's theme, "Radiance of Change."

Dr Mel represented Purple Project on the night, and when we asked her what the moment meant to her, she said it best:

"To be honoured and celebrated, and to represent those who are not seen is such a huge priviledge."

That's what this award really represents, every woman whose story hasn't had a stage yet.

Thank you to The Herald and Nelson Mandela University for the honour, and for a truly glamorous evening celebrating the people changing our community for the better.

Another room, another conversation started 💜

Dr Melissa Pietersen was invited to speak at Nelson Mandela University's Social Work Department Women's Wellness Campaign, alongside guest speakers covering mental health and community wellbeing.

Her focus: cancer awareness, risk factors, prevention, and why early detection saves lives - the same message we carry into every school, every activation, every conversation.

It's a fitting way to open September - Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month
