A room full of bright minds, bold ideas and future innovators. As part of the International Day of the Girl Child Programme, our GirlCoders have gathered at the Sasol offices for an exciting AI Hackathon, putting their creativity, coding skills and problem-solving abilities to the test.

The venue is buzzing with innovation, collaboration and endless possibilities as these girls use technology to imagine, create and shape the future;s they want for not just themselves

We have our 2026 Pan-African winners!

A huge congratulations to Team 404:Men for taking the top spot and walking away with R100,000 for SheCircle — a solution designed to improve visibility around the need for sanitary towels while also providing feminine health education.

From regional winner to Pan-African champion, this is a powerful example of technology being used to solve a real and deeply relevant problem.

Sometimes the right mentor can change how you see both your career and yourself.

One of our mentees reflected on her experience in the GirlCode Mentorship Programme:

“My experience with the GirlCode mentorship programme has been truly amazing, and I’m honestly grateful that I had the opportunity to be part of it. When I started the programme, I was excited to learn, but I didn’t realise just how much the experience would impact me personally and professionally.

Having Marché as my mentor has been such a wonderful part of this journey. She was always willing to listen to me, guide me, encourage me, and share her knowledge and experience. I learned so much from her, not only about my career and professional development, but also about believing in myself, being confident in my abilities, and not being afraid to keep learning and growing.”

She also shared:

“One of the biggest lessons I’m taking from this mentorship is that growth doesn’t happen overnight. Sometimes, you just need the right guidance, someone who believes in you, and the courage to keep going. I’m leaving this programme with more confidence, knowledge, clarity, and motivation to continue building my career in technology.”

This is why mentorship matters.

Mentorship can change more than a career path. It can change how someone sees themselves.

One of our mentees from the GirlCode x Accenture Mentorship Programme shared her experience:

“Being part of the Accenture x GirlCode mentorship programme has been a truly defining experience for me. I had an incredible support from my mentor, she generously gave her time, shared her knowledge, and provided valuable resources that have already made a real difference in how I approach my job search and long term career strategy.”

“I've gained a deeper sense of confidence in myself and my journey. The programme created a safe space for me to learn, grow, and slowly step out of my comfort zone. It reminded me that I don’t have to have everything figured out—I just need to keep showing up.”

And perhaps most importantly:

“More than anything, it reminded me that I’m not doing this alone. I’m growing within a community that sees me, supports me, and inspires me to keep going.”

This is the kind of impact we want mentorship to create.

Kinda chic to be a GirlCoder.

Kinda chic to learn how technology works.
Kinda chic to build instead of just consume.
Kinda chic to walk into rooms where women are still underrepresented and know that your ideas belong there.

We need more women in tech because the products, platforms and systems shaping our lives should be built by people with different experiences, perspectives and ideas.

More women in technology means more voices influencing what gets designed, what problems get solved and who gets considered along the way.

So yes, learning to code is kinda chic.

But helping shape the future? Even better.
