THE RED CABOOSE

This one-of-a-kind, beautifully restored 1941 SAR Caboose carriage offers accommodation in a train called The Red Caboose. It is situated on Red Earth Farm, 15 km from Robertson and 4 km from McGregor.

This train accommodation can accommodate 2 adults and 2 children and comprises 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and a lovely self-catering kitchen. The main bedroom is furnished with a double bed, while the second bedroom is furnished with a bunk bed, ideally suited for 2 children. The bathroom is fitted with a bath, basin, and toilet. Crisp linen and towels are provided.

The kitchen is equipped with a bar fridge and freezer, stove, oven, basic cutlery, crockery, and tea- and coffee-making facilities. There’s a lovely dining area with a comfortable booth for guests to enjoy their meals.

Outside, guests are spoiled with the wonders of nature surrounding this carriage. Enjoy the gorgeous valley and mountain views from the wood fired hot tub. There’s a lovely firepit that guests can braai in and a splash pool for those warm summer days. Guests are afforded safe and secure parking on the premises.

The Red Caboose is situated in a great location. It is located within close proximity to Vrolijkheid Nature Reserve, w**e farms, Eseltjierus Donkey Sanctuary, and 4 km from McGregor Village, where guests will find wonderful cafés, restaurants, and shops.

It may be a cloudy winter’s day here in McGregor, but there is something beautiful about knowing that a warm meal is being prepared with love for those who need it.

Today, McGregor Soup Kitchen welcomes everyone in our community. No judgement. No questions. No embarrassment. Simply come as you are. If you need a meal, you are welcome. Our kitchen is a place of dignity, kindness and compassion.

Every plate we serve is made possible because of people who care. To our donors, sponsors, volunteers and supporters, we want you to know just how deeply grateful we are. Your generosity helps turn ingredients into meals, donations into hope, and kindness into something that can be felt throughout our community.

Today at McGregor Soup Kitchen, we are serving a hearty plate of Beef Cabbage Stew (Koolbredie) with Rice prepared with love, care and the hope of bringing a little warmth to someone’s day.

A meal may seem like something simple, but for someone going through a difficult time, a warm plate of food can mean so much more. It can bring comfort, dignity, hope and the reminder that they are not forgotten.

Our soup kitchen is more than just a place where food is served it is a place where our community comes together, where kindness is shared, and where we look after one another.

To everyone who supports us, donates, volunteers, cooks, delivers, shares our posts or simply encourages us thank you. Every contribution, big or small, helps us continue putting food on tables and smiles on faces.

There are some acts of kindness that touch your heart in a way words can hardly explain. The generous donation of the WarmMaster from Janice Davidoff and Stanley Davidoff means so much to all of us at McGregor Soup Kitchen.

Your generosity is not simply about a piece of equipment it is about helping us continue to serve warm meals with love, dignity and care. It makes our work a little easier and reminds us that there are people who believe in what we are trying to do for our community.

From all of us at McGregor Soup Kitchen, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to Stephanie and Red Earth Chicken for the generous donation of fresh, free-range chicken.

Your kindness has made it possible for us to prepare a wholesome, hearty and nutritious meal for the children, adults and elderly people in our community. Every donation we receive is turned into something much bigger a warm meal, a full stomach, a smile and a reminder that someone cares.

We truly appreciate the quality chicken you provided. Knowing that your chickens are free range, allowed to roam naturally, fed a certified vegetarian grain-based diet and raised without hormones, medication or antibiotics makes this donation even more special.
