Hermanus Child & Family Services invites applications for the position of Shop Manager for The Family Tree Charity Shop in Hermanus.
We are looking for a dynamic, energetic and self-motivated person who wants to make The Family Tree Charity Shop thrive and, through it, contribute meaningfully to the work of Hermanus Child & Family Services. This is much more than a day-to-day retail role: a major part of the position is actively growing donations, engaging the community, mobilising and managing volunteers, and building a lively social media presence. The right person will be reliable, loyal, hands-on and full of initiative, with a genuine passion for child protection and for making a difference in Hermanus.

The successful applicant will be responsible for:
โข Proactively seeking and growing donations by building relationships with individuals, schools, businesses and the wider Hermanus community;
โข Recruiting, engaging, coordinating and managing volunteers, including schedules and attendance;
โข Creating and managing lively, consistent social media and promotional content to grow awareness, donations, customers and community support;
โข Taking ownership of the overall performance, energy and day-to-day running of the shop, including identifying opportunities to grow sales and fundraising;
โข Ensuring that the shop is safe, clean, attractive, welcoming and well stocked;
โข Receiving, sorting, pricing, labelling and managing donated stock, including effective stock control;
โข Managing cash, card and other sales, daily cash-ups, reconciliations, banking and petty cash administration;
โข Maintaining accurate donor, customer, stock and administrative records;
โข Building positive relationships with donors, customers, volunteers and the wider community, and responding professionally to enquiries and complaints.

โข Dynamic, energetic and engaged, with the drive to take initiative, make things happen and actively grow the shop.

โข Reliable, loyal and committed, with the consistency and follow-through needed to be trusted with the shop and its community relationships.
โข A genuine passion for the work of Hermanus Child & Family Services, child protection and contributing positively to the Hermanus community.
โข Confident and comfortable approaching people and businesses, building relationships, asking for donations and mobilising community support.
โข Strong people-management and communication skills, with the ability to motivate, coordinate and manage volunteers and engage warmly with customers and donors.
โข Comfortable creating and managing social media content and using social media to promote the shop and drive donations and sales.
โข Strong organisational, administrative and basic financial management skills, including stock control, cash handling and record keeping.
โข Must be eligible to work in an organisation serving children in accordance with the Childrenโs Act and relevant safeguarding requirements.

The position offers a modest base salary together with performance-based incentives linked to the success and growth of the shop. Hermanus Child & Family Services (HCFS), previously known as Child Welfare Hermanus, was established in 1944 and is a designated child protection organisation serving children and families in the greater Hermanus community.
