🚲 SIX BICYCLES, COUNTLESS OPPORTUNITIES! 🚲

Hermanus Child & Family Services (HCFS) is delighted to have received six bicycles during the 2026 Overstrand Bicycle Day, held in Hermanus on Saturday, 24 October 2026.

The bicycles were officially handed over as part of an initiative by the Western Cape Government’s Department of Mobility, under the leadership of Minister Isaac Sileku, aimed at promoting sustainable mobility and community development.

Our organisation was proudly represented at the ceremony by Saneze Magoqwana.

For the children and young people we support, a bicycle represents much more than a means of transport. It offers opportunities for recreation, greater independence, physical activity and the simple joy of being a child.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Minister Isaac Sileku, the Western Cape Department of Mobility, Luhren Slinger and everyone involved in making this generous contribution possible.

Partnerships such as these remind us that supporting vulnerable children extends beyond meeting their immediate needs. It is also about creating opportunities for them to experience joy, develop confidence and enjoy a sense of belonging within their communities.

𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐬 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝 & 𝐅𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 invites applications for the position of 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 for a residential care house.

The successful candidate will provide a safe, stable and nurturing home environment for children placed in the care of HCFS and will work closely with the HCFS social work and management team.

𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬

* Provide day-to-day care, supervision and emotional support to children in the home.
* Maintain a safe, structured and nurturing household environment.
* Support children with school attendance, routines, appointments, activities and developmental needs.
* Manage household routines, meals, hygiene and general household organisation.
* Transport children to school, appointments and other authorised activities when required.
* Maintain appropriate records and communicate regularly with the social work team.
* Promote positive behaviour, healthy relationships and age-appropriate independence.
* Ensure that HCFS safeguarding, child-protection and organisational policies are consistently upheld.

𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐮𝐦 𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬

Applicants must:

* Have a 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐝 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫’𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 – this is an essential requirement.
* Have experience caring for children, preferably in foster care, residential care, child and youth care, education or a related setting.
* Demonstrate maturity, patience, emotional resilience and sound judgement.
* Be able to provide a stable, caring and appropriately structured environment for children.
* Be able to work effectively with social workers, schools, healthcare providers and other service providers.
* Have good communication and basic administrative skills.
* Be willing to work the hours and residential arrangements required by the position.

Hermanus Child & Family Services invites applications for the position of Shop Manager for The Family Tree Charity Shop in Hermanus.

We are looking for a dynamic, energetic and self-motivated person who wants to make The Family Tree Charity Shop thrive and, through it, contribute meaningfully to the work of Hermanus Child & Family Services. This is much more than a day-to-day retail role: a major part of the position is actively growing donations, engaging the community, mobilising and managing volunteers, and building a lively social media presence. The right person will be reliable, loyal, hands-on and full of initiative, with a genuine passion for child protection and for making a difference in Hermanus.

𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬
The successful applicant will be responsible for:
• Proactively seeking and growing donations by building relationships with individuals, schools, businesses and the wider Hermanus community;
• Recruiting, engaging, coordinating and managing volunteers, including schedules and attendance;
• Creating and managing lively, consistent social media and promotional content to grow awareness, donations, customers and community support;
• Taking ownership of the overall performance, energy and day-to-day running of the shop, including identifying opportunities to grow sales and fundraising;
• Ensuring that the shop is safe, clean, attractive, welcoming and well stocked;
• Receiving, sorting, pricing, labelling and managing donated stock, including effective stock control;
• Managing cash, card and other sales, daily cash-ups, reconciliations, banking and petty cash administration;
• Maintaining accurate donor, customer, stock and administrative records;
• Building positive relationships with donors, customers, volunteers and the wider community, and responding professionally to enquiries and complaints.

• Strong organisational, administrative and basic financial management skills, including stock control, cash handling and record keeping.
• Must be eligible to work in an organisation serving children in accordance with the Children’s Act and relevant safeguarding requirements.
