📚✨ Teaching Practice Tutorials at Overstrand Learning Hub – Session 2 ✨📚
Another valuable Teaching Practice Tutorial is complete, and our student teachers are one step closer to entering the classroom with confidence! 🌟
This session focused on the building blocks of an effective lesson:
🎶 Using action songs and rhymes to make learning fun and support additional language development.
📝 Understanding that a well-planned lesson is the foundation of great teaching.
👩‍🏫 Creating learner-centered lessons that help learners stay engaged and remember what they've learned.
We also explored key lesson planning tips, including:
✅ Writing objectives that align with assessment methods.
✅ Using Bloom's Taxonomy questions to create meaningful learning outcomes.
✅ Giving clear instructions that learners can easily understand.
✅ Staying focused on the lesson theme and choosing stories that support learning.
✅ Allowing enough time for activities and using Brain Gym breaks to regain learners' attention.
Every great teacher starts with preparation, passion and a willingness to learn. We are proud of our student teachers as they continue to develop the skills they'll soon use to inspire young minds. 💙

✨ Learning from those who have walked the journey! 🍎📚
Our Teaching Practice Tutorial was filled with real experiences, honest advice, and plenty of inspiration as three of our student teachers currently completing their internships shared their journeys so far inside a classroom.
From overcoming first-day nerves to building confidence in the classroom, they reminded us that great teachers are patient, professional, consistent, and always willing to go the extra mile for their learners. They encouraged fellow students to embrace feedback, learn from every experience, value every learner's voice, and create inclusive classrooms where every child feels safe, seen, and supported.
Teaching is about so much more than lessons—it's about making a lasting impact on young lives. 💙

🎉 What a fantastic way to start the semester!
A huge thank you to FinGlobal for their generous donation of 40 brand-new tables, purchased through Office National Hermanus. Your support is making a real difference at the Overstrand Learning Hub!
The timing couldn't have been better. Our Foundation Phase student teachers are beginning their teaching practice tutorials in preparation for their practical this semester, and these new tables will help create a comfortable, collaborative learning space.

On the weekend of 3 and 4 July, the Overstrand Learning Hub (OLH) played host to the very first Elegance and Grace Pop-Up Market in Hermanus!
Amazing vendors, great finds and good vibes. ✨
What an incredible weekend it was as our venue came alive with talented entrepreneurs, delicious food, unique handmade products and a wonderful community atmosphere. Visitors had the opportunity to browse an exciting variety of stalls featuring clothing, shoes, pottery, jewellery, accessories, gourmet treats and so much more.
A huge congratulations to Sasha, owner of Elegance and Grace, for successfully organising her very first pop-up market in Hermanus. We are proud that OLH could be the venue for this exciting community event and look forward to seeing it grow from strength to strength.

A special word of appreciation goes to our three OLH students—Bernice, Davino and Luntu—who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, assisting vendors with setting up, packing away and ensuring everything ran smoothly throughout the weekend. Your willingness to serve and your positive attitude did not go unnoticed!
Thank you to every vendor, visitor and supporter who contributed to making this first market such a memorable one. We can't wait to see what the next one has in store!
