(Part 3 – TRANSPORT) 🚛🐶

Loading up 10 newly painted kennels and delivering them in cold, wet weather is no mean feat!

A HUGE THANK YOU to Jolli and Lucky from MANGISI MINI MOVERS, who generously donated their transport, staff and time to help Wags n Whiskers deliver all 10 kennels — ensuring that 10 community dogs now have shelter from the cold, rain and wind. 💙🐾

When they realised that all the kennels wouldn’t fit onto the vehicle, they simply made a plan and organised a trailer! We honestly could not have done this without their help.

This is the second time MANGISI MINI MOVERS has stepped in to assist Wags n Whiskers with transporting kennels, and we are incredibly grateful for their continued support and their efficient, professional service.

Lucky navigated the truck and trailer through Kuyasa’s narrow streets like a real pro! 🚛👏 And despite the rain — and even some wet paint on some of our freshly painted kennels 😅🎨 — everything was carefully loaded, transported and offloaded fully intact.

🐾🏠 THE DOGBOX PROJECT — Part 2 🏠🐾

After having great fun painting two kennels at The DOGBOX Project, WAGS n WHISKERS was incredibly fortunate to be the recipient of 10 newly painted wooden dog kennels! 💙🐾

Our dogs in Nomnwano, where we have been working towards herd immunity this year through sterilisations, vaccinations, deworming, tick and flea treatments and the provision of kennels, all have shelter. So it was time to extend our work into Kuyasa.
Over the past two weeks, we have been getting to know the area — finding missing street names, compiling a map and identifying dogs most in need of shelter.
We prioritised sterilised dogs, but there were two unsterilised dogs with absolutely no protection from the rain or sun that we simply could not leave without shelter. Their owner happily signed our agreement giving Wags n Whiskers permission to have both dogs sterilised in exchange for their kennels. 🐶❤️

The time of delivery arrived.. and the weather was definitely not playing ball! 🌧️😂
With grey skies, cold weather and a constant drizzle, we loaded up the kennels and set off.
A huge thank you to Whale Coast Mall for supplying us with drop sheets to protect these beautifully painted kennels on their journey.

And what a rewarding day it was!
Without fail, every owner and their family was excited and genuinely grateful to receive a kennel, together with a bag of dog food and a water bowl. Seeing the excitement — and knowing that another dog now has a dry, protected place to sleep — made the miserable weather completely worthwhile. 🏠🐕💕

Thanks to The DOGBOX Project, the Whale Coast Mall and all the wonderful sponsors who made this possible. Ten kennels have become so much more than ten wooden boxes — they have become 10 safe, dry shelters for dogs who needed them. ❤️🐾

What a wonderful initiative bringing businesses, organisations and the community together to make a very real difference in the lives of community dogs.🏠🐕💖

JINXED BY JINX! 🐈‍⬛😋

We named this handsome boy Jinx because he was yet another “Kitty”—and it can become extremely confusing trying to work out which Kitty everyone is referring to!

We must have had good insight when choosing his name, because Jinx proved extremely difficult to get hold of. His owner told us that he was male and had not been neutered, so after sterilising all the adult cats, Jinx was next on our list.

On the morning we first went to collect him, Jinx managed to escape from the house—and nobody could find him!

We tried again the following week. We left the cat carrier at the house the night before and asked the family to please keep him indoors and place him safely in the carrier before opening any windows or doors.

Early the next morning, we finally collected Jinx and, feeling very relieved, set off for Onrus Veterinary Clinic.

Like many community animals, Jinx was a little unsure about the car ride and being placed in a cage, but he soon seemed to settle quite well.

A while later, we received a call from Dr Lise. Three vets had examined Jinx and carried out some tests—and it appeared that he had already been neutered! She promised to check again just to make absolutely certain.

Well… Jinx was indeed already neutered! 😋🐈‍⬛

Nevertheless, his visit was certainly not wasted. He received his vaccination, deworming, and tick and flea treatment.

Jinx turned out to be such a gentle, good-natured chap that we could completely understand why his family loves him so much. ❤️

🐾 TWO SISTERS & RESPONSIBLE OWNERS! 🐾

A huge thank you to Bergview Veterinary Hospital for sterilising and vaccinating teenage sisters Chloe and Coco. 💕🐶🐶

These two girls are an absolute delight — happy, friendly and both with such lovely natures.

We are especially proud of their owners for agreeing to have them sterilised while they are still young. By making this responsible choice, they have prevented two possible litters of unwanted puppies and helped us take another small but important step towards reducing the number of unwanted dogs in the community. ❤️

Chloe and Coco are also fully up to date with deworming, and tick and flea treatments — exactly what we love to see!

Well done to their owners for giving these beautiful girls the healthy start they deserve, and thank you once again to Bergview Veterinary Hospital for your continued support of Wags n Whiskers and the animals in our community. 🐾💙

These adorable 8 week old pups are so ready to leave the building and go home with their special humans. They have been well socialized, well cared for, learn quickly and have awesome natures.

🌧️ A KENNEL MEANS SO MUCH MORE ON A DAY LIKE TODAY 🐾

The pouring rain today reminded us just how lucky two of our dogs in Nomnwano are to now have a warm, dry place to shelter. ❤️

🐕 Blondie recently received a kennel, food and a warm blanket from Sumari. This is the second kennel Sumari has generously bought for the dogs of Nomnwano.

Blondie’s owner and her son — one of our young Animal Warriors — were both so grateful and excited to receive it. 🐾

🐕‍🦺Just a day later, Danger was equally lucky when he received a kennel donated by Christine. This is the third kennel Christine has generously donated to the dogs in Nomnwano.

On cold, wet days like today, these kennels are more than just shelters. They mean a dog can stay warm, dry and protected from the elements.

A heartfelt thank you to these two very kind ladies. 💙

Sumari and Christine, your generosity has made a real and lasting difference to the lives of these dogs.

Sometimes changing a life starts with something as simple as giving a dog a safe, dry place to sleep. 🐾🏠❤️

💕🐾 MANDELA DAY FOLLOW-UP PROJECT – HERD IMMUNITY IN ACTION 🐾💕

What a rewarding Mandela Day weekend!

On Friday afternoon and throughout Saturday, the Wags n Whiskers team went from house to house in Nomnwano, the area where we are implementing our herd immunity programme for companion animals.

During this follow-up visit:
🐶 22 dogs and 🐱 5 cats received a deworming treatment and Bravecto for tick and flea control.

Most of these animals had already received their vaccinations during our February and March vaccination drives and had also previously received tick, flea and deworming treatments. This weekend's visit was an important follow-up to keep them healthy and protected.

The greatest reward of all was seeing just how healthy the animals are looking. Their shiny coats, improved body condition and happy demeanours are wonderful confirmation that what we are doing is making a real difference.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible volunteers and committee members for once again giving up their time to make this project possible.

We are especially proud of the amazing children who attended our Wags n Whiskers Animal Education Programme at the Overstrand Whale Boxing Club (OWBC). Many of the children who live in Nomnwano joined us to help during the weekend. Watching these young Animal Warriors put their lessons into action filled us with hope for the future. You made us incredibly proud!
