Peeping through the fynbos!

A curious Klipspringer spotted along the Green Waterfall Trail, adding a little wildlife magic to our beautiful Greyton surroundings.

Did you know? Klipspringers are incredible rock climbers! Their small, rounded hooves have soft, rubbery centres that help them grip rocky surfaces, allowing them to move confidently across steep, uneven terrain. Nature’s very own little acrobats! 🪨

Our ranger has been hard at work clearing the paths along the Vlei/Gobos River today, helping keep our beautiful natural spaces accessible for everyone to enjoy.

Project Knietjies taking shape!
Last week’s hard work at the Knietjies erosion trench is really paying off. Severe erosion trenches like these threaten the stability of the slopes, but packing sandbags and redirecting flow helps heal the mountain trail.

The magic of Greyton’s fynbos comeback!
What started as a terrifying wildfire has transformed into an absolute explosion of life! 🏔️
While the immediate aftermath looked like a wasteland, the fynbos biome thrives on this. The fire cleared dense old growth letting in essential sunlight and fresh air while nutrient-rich ash and minerals completely rejuvenated the soil. Triggered by the smoke and heat, dormant seeds rapidly germinated into this breathtaking super-bloom.
Crucially, the invasive alien vegetation has been cleared!
Things are getting better by the day and the ecosystem is officially recharged. A massive thank you to the incredible community volunteers supporting the Greyton Conservation hacks and the team at Wild Restoration for their tireless work clearing these slopes so our native flora can thrive.

👹🍄 DID YOU KNOW?
Meet Devil’s Fingers (Clathrus archeri) one of nature’s strangest fungi!

Its bright red, tentacle-like arms emerge from an egg-shaped base, covered in a dark, foul-smelling spore slime that attracts flies. 🪰

A bizarre but fascinating little piece of nature found right here in our surroundings!

🐍 DID YOU KNOW? | PUFF ADDER

Spotted in the Greyton Nature Reserve a male Puff Adder (Bitis arietans), one of South Africa’s highly venomous snakes. 🌿

Puff Adders have cytotoxic venom, which can cause serious damage to skin and muscle. They are also masters of camouflage, making them easy to miss when walking through natural areas.

⚠️ If you encounter one, keep your distance and give it space. Admire it from a safe distance our wildlife belongs in the wild. 💚
