COEXISTENCE AROUND THE WORLD

Coyotes were widespread throughout the city of San Francisco in the early 1900s. However, a government-sponsored campaign that encouraged residents to poison or shoot this native species led to them vanishing from the area. More than 75 years passed before they re-emerged in the city in the early 2000s, a testament to their resilience and adaptability. There is now a steady population estimated at around 100 individuals, but co-existence between an apex predator and city-dwelling people is not without its challenges. Generally speaking, though, scientists say it is not the coyotes of San Francisco that are the problem, but humans. Fishermen leave bait on piers, picnickers leave scraps in parks, rubbish bins spill over with detritus that the coyotes relish and some locals break the law and intentionally feed them. New computers!

Thank you to Guardians of the Deep NPC's Sally Sivewright and Justin Vandre of Tenacity Computing for donating fully reconditioned computers for our Greyton Nature Program.

This is such an amazing program that you're running, Sally. If anyone has an old computer Sally will gladly take it off your hands, get it reconditioned ready for distribution to worthy Conservation NGOs or programmes.

Here is Mike K**k receiving the computers from Sally.

Thank you Baboon Matters for putting us in touch.

10th April Deadline for Applications.
Don't delay!

The Greyton Conservation Society is seeking a Conservation Manager to lead the Greyton Nature Program, a growing initiative working to strengthen conservation in the Greyton Nature Reserve and surrounding corridors and village.

This is a hands-on leadership role combining strategy, field management, partnerships, and community engagement. The successful candidate will work closely with rangers, residents, and partner organisations to implement practical conservation actions, alien clearing, and habitat stewardship. This includes managing a compassionate baboon co-existence programme.

This is a unique opportunity for a self-motivated conservation professional, with strong leadership skills, the ability to work independently, and fluency in English and Afrikaans, that is able to be based in Greyton or surrounding villages full time.

If you are committed to practical conservation and enjoy working with both people and landscapes in a beautiful place, we would like to hear from you.
