A safe space for farm animals, including pigs, sheep, goats, cows and farm birds, where their every need is met, where they are loved and recognised for the unique personalities that they are. We are based at Tabularasa Farm, 7 kms from Greyton, in the Western Cape of South Africa. The sanctuary offers a forever home to orphaned, sick, abused, neglected or retired farm animals, giving them a natu

ral life with all their needs met. No breeding of any animal, including our rescue cats and dogs, is allowed to take place here nor are our animals trained to perform or entertain. We offer a Humane Education Programme to schools in our community and a Pigs to Plants project to help backyard pig farmers transition from farming pigs to farming crops and vegetables. The sanctuary is run by Nicola Vernon, staff and volunteers. We welcome donations and sponsorship of the animals. Piggies are R350 per month, sheep are R250 per month and birds are R50 per month. BAN LIVE EXPORT DAY. We stand with the animals AND humans who suffer because of South Africa's appalling treatment of animals.

The way we treat animals reflects who we are as a society. When we normalize the exploitation of vulnerable beings for profit, we become desensitized to suffering.

Animals and humans die brutal deaths. We need to evolve into a compassionate nation. Start with the animals and it will grow to encompass our people.

Around the world animal lovers are stepping up and protesting the cruelty that has now become normalized in our increasingly violent world. Animal abuse and human abuse are inextricably connected, with abuse of animals often the precursor to violence between humans. It's no coincidence that those societies where animal abuse is highest are also the ones with the highest daily murder rates. If governments don't set high standards for animals then society follows and levels of violence towards animals and humans follow parallel trajectories. It seems hopeless but animal lovers are taking a stand. As individuals we don't have to shine images on Parliament or rescue dogs from laboratories in order to do our bit. We can start by leaving animals off our plates.

Just can't believe the sheer, wondrous, amazing audacity of Project Slingshot - they are really doing this! Projecting images of the horrors of industrial pig farming onto the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace and the Ministry of Agriculture. Absolutely bloody brilliant. And they are carrying on doing it.

Big girl pig move booked for 19th June, with vet in attendance, so let's hope this beautiful soul can at last be safely brought to her forever home with us.
