🚨 URGENT COMMUNITY ACTION NEEDED BY SUNDAY, 11 MAY, MIDNIGHT🚨

A convicted ra**st, Le Roy Anderson, is up for early parole — after serving only half his sentence. If granted, he’ll be released back into our community, where the victim and her family still live.

We must act now to stop this.

Urgent appeal for new GRRO committee members:

The Greyton Residents and Ratepayers Association (GRRO) is in urgent needs of new members. Without the help and support from residents, GRRO will be unable to continue operating in its current form. As it stands, GRRO has 4 committee members, one of which holds 2 positions due to the lack of volunteers and will be vacating the roles at the end of October. If there any residents would like to volunteer with the GRRO initiatives, please contact Clayton as soon as possible.

GRRO's OBJECTIVES, AIMS AND PURPOSE:
- To promote, foster and encourage interest in local civic and municipal affairs and policy.
- To identify and recognize community needs and assist in developing means of meeting them, within the framework of regulations, municipal ordinances and economic reality.
- To draw up plans of action for gathering all possible information in studying and investigating specific community problems, verify the reliability of information, weigh up all alternatives, test deliberations and decisions against policies and the possible impact these might have on the community as a whole, before submitting its findings to the authorities and/or local authorities for their consideration.
- To provide a forum for free and full discussion of all matters of public interest and to ascertain to what extent individuals or the community as a whole will be benefited by any action that may arise, result or ensue from these deliberations.
- To encourage all residents who are qualified to vote to ensure that their names appear on the municipal voters role.
- To maintain a register of all members of the organization.
- To promote interest in the recognition and preservation of the architectural and natural beauty of Greyton, Heuwelkroon and Boschmanskloof and their surrounds and where feasible, and in the interests of the community as a whole, to collaborate with other agencies, organizations or institutions with similar objectives.

Important Notice for Ward 2 Towns Residents

As most of you are aware, TWK has been under immense financial strain over the last year or so. This has become more evident be by the rapid deterioration of service delivery within our town. GRRO has received information from numerous source that the TWK council in now embarking on a massive cost cutting exercise that will impact all of us, especially with regards to the little service delivery we currently receive.

With a massive R350 MILLION debt bill, TWK have decided to cut back on the locations where municipal vehicles may fill up, due to the fact that they are unable to pay their current debt to petrol station owners. This leaves the Ward 2 specific TWK vehicles only 1 option to fill up - in Villiersdorp!! This cost-cutting, when implemented, will impact some of our most vital services, namely rubbish collection, septic tank services filling potholes, stormwater and leiwater channel cleaning.

So, GRRO is currently formulating an emergency backup plan, that would come into effect, when services in Ward 2 fail. To this end, we are putting out a call for all those who are able to assist with the implementation of our plan - to provide help where needed. This help could be anything from assisting with the collection and drop-off of rubbish on a weekly basis, to weekly side walk sweeping, to assisting with potholes, just to name a few.
So we need an many people to assist where possible, because without the community stepping up to fill the gap we will quickly see our town fail. Tourism is our biggest money spinner and keeps this little economy going, so without services, there is no Greyton economy.

We are specifically looking for the following volunteers:
- anyone willing to assist with collecting rubbish, who has a trailer and/or bakkie
- anyone willing to assist with cleaning sidewalks - sweeping, picking up rubbish, emptying public bins
- anyone willing to assist in general, where needed.

Our current course of action is as follows:
1. Notification of residents about the situation at TWK and possibility of impact on services
2. Call for volunteers to assist GRRO and contribute to the running of Ward 2 services.
3. Formulation of emergency plan - who, what, how, when, why
4. Notify volunteers of their assigned roles.
5. Timelines of when then emergency plan will kick-in

Meet the 2024 / 2025 GRRO Committee Members.

We would like to thank the outgoing members for their work over the last year - Gavin Jones, Marli Hoffman , Dawn Woodford.

Going forward there are a few initiatives, we will be working on, that we would like to make the community aware of:
- Whatsapp Community - bringing the various Whatsapp groups in Greyton under a single Whtasapp community. This is an attempt to bring the community closer together, provide more visibility on what's happening and how residents can get involved to support our town.
- Memorandum of Understanding with TWK - Last year the committee worked tirelessly to come to an understanding with TWK in order for the community to assist with municipal services that are falling short. This has been an extremely frustrating task as those in charge have a "Pass the buck" approach. We will continue to engage with the powers that be at TWK in order to get an MOU signed.
- Refuse Bins - We are currently trying to get quotes from various manufacturers and suppliers in order to get the best price for general waste and recycling bins. Making use of these bins will go a long way to stopping the horses and cows from breaking open and eating the rubbish bags, which in turn , prevents unnecessary deaths.

There are various other items on the list, which i will distribute soon.

We hope this email finds you in good health and spirits. We are writing to inform you that the Greyton Ratepayers & Residents Organisation will be holding its Annual General Meeting on 23 May 2024, at 18h00 at the Anglican Hall, Jones Street, Greyton.

The AGM is an important event for our community as it provides an opportunity to reflect on the past year, elect new committee members and a chairperson, and plan for the year ahead. We urge all residents and ratepayers to attend this meeting and contribute to the decision-making process.

We also invite all interested individuals who would like to serve on the committee to attend the meeting and volunteer. We believe that every member of our community has something valuable to offer, and your input is critical to our organization's success.
