Due to inclement weather, the following reserves will be closed as follows:

• 1-7 June 2026: Tierkloof Hiking Trail at Gamkaberg Nature Reserve.
• 1-30 June 2026: All facilities at Limietberg Nature Reserve, including campsites and picnic sites.
• 2-4 June 2026: All hiking trails at Vrolijkheid Nature Reserve.
• 2-7 June 2026: All facilities at Anysberg Nature Reserve and all accommodation, hiking trails, picnic sites, 4x4 trails, including Oukraal at Gamkaberg Nature Reserve.
• 2-29 June 2026: All facilities at Keurbooms River Nature Reserve.
• 3-4 June 2026: All facilities at Robberg Nature Reserve and Marine Protected Area.

Kindly note: Closures are subject to change. Please visit our official CapeNature website or contact the relevant reserve for the latest updates.

🚨 URGENT TRAIL SAFETY ALERT: STAY OFF THE TRAILS 🚨

⚠️ ORANGE LEVEL 8 WEATHER WARNING ISSUED (UPGRADED FROM LEVEL 6)

George Trails community, please take note: The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has upgraded the weather warning to an Orange Level 8 for disruptive rainfall affecting the Garden Route from Wednesday, 3 June until Thursday, 4 June 2026.

We are expecting severe weather, and we strongly urge all trail users to stay entirely off the trails during this period. Mountainous areas are expected to receive the brunt of this system.

🌧️ What to Expect:

Massive Rainfall: 150–200 mm of rain is possible, with even higher accumulations expected in our mountains and upper trail networks.

High-Risk Trail Conditions: Extreme risk of mudslides, rockfalls, and falling trees.

Dangerous Waterways: Fast-flowing streams and dangerous, flooded river crossings. What looks like a small creek today will be a raging torrent tomorrow.

Infrastructure Damage: Potential flooding of access roads, bridges, and trail networks.

🚫 Your Safety Checklist:

Stay off the dirt: Do not attempt to hike, run, or ride until the storm has passed and trails have been assessed for damage.

Avoid unnecessary travel: Keep off mountain passes and flooded roads.

Keep a close eye on kids & pets: Ensure they stay far away from rivers, stormwater drains, and flooded areas.

Stay informed: Follow official disaster management and SAWS updates.

Our trails will recover, but lives cannot be replaced. Please prioritize your safety, stay indoors, and let’s ride out this storm safely. 🌧️🏠

Orange Level 5 Warning – Heavy Rain and Possible Flooding
⚠️ ORANGE LEVEL 5 WARNING: Disruptive Rainfall ⚠️

The South African Weather Service has issued an Orange Level 5 Warning for parts of the Garden Route and Central Karoo from 03 to 04 June 2026.

🌧️ Expected rainfall:
• 25–50 mm over western parts of the Garden Route and Central Karoo.
• 50–100 mm over eastern parts of the Garden Route.
• Higher rainfall totals possible in mountainous areas.

Potential impacts include: 🚧 Flooding of roads and low-lying areas. 🏠 Damage to homes, infrastructure and property.
⚠️ Fast-flowing streams and dangerous river crossings.
🚗 Major traffic disruptions and possible road closures.
⛰️ Mudslides and rockfalls on mountain passes.

Residents are urged to remain alert, avoid flooded roads and monitor official updates.
