DUMPED KITTENS AT ONE OF OUR COLONIES!
To the person that dumped a few kittens at one of our colonies at Stoneridge, i would like to know how you thought the kittens would be ok there and be rescued...
Your actions has resulted in a deceased kitten... and the others nowhere to be found (hoping someone picked them up , someone decent with proper ethical standards and not someone that would think to harm them or use them for the wrong reasons)
In my mind I can't help but think it's one of those people who rescue kittens, contacts us and the first text is JUST NOT THE SPCA...
I'm just trying to figure out what the mindset was behind leaving the kittens at an extremely busy shopping centre??
Did you think that because they were left at a feral feeding station they would be found, taken in and cared for??
Did you think that "oh there's atleast cat food here every day they will survive here"???
Well you thought wrong!!!
When you dropped them there, they were in a strange environment not knowing where to go... with a very busy P91 right there and constant movement of cars they would panic and make rash decisions ending up in fatalities... just to mention 1 of the issues they dealt with when they were dumped...
So dumping them at a very busy mall was better than taking them to the SPCA?
So getting knocked over by a car and suffering a slow death is better than taking them to the SPCA?
This stigma with "ALL CATS THAT END UP AT THE SPCA GETS PUT DOWN" Really bugs me... If you are one of these people i would highly suggest to go volunteer at your local spca for a week or so and you will see the reality behind it all...
The amount of animals that come in compared to the amount of animals claimed and adopted just doesn't match up, in a perfect world YES but unfortunately not in this world...
Imagine a world without the SPCA, take a minute, close your eyes and imagine...
Let me paint the scene for you...
-No one would see to animal cruelty and neglect complaints..
-Animal abusers would continue doing what they doing without consequences
-Stray animals will not be found as there would be no central pound to take them to..
-Every animal organisation would be overflowing... where ethical and non hoarding shelters would then also do euthanasia to control numbers, but i guess the messages would then be "just not that organisation".
These are just a few that i mentioned the issue would be disastrous..
Were there lots of homes adopting cats there would be less Euthanasias at spcas...
Were there more people sterilising their cats there would be less Euthanasias at the spcas...
Had the mommy of those kittens dumped been sterilized there would not have been kittens to dump... right or wrong???
Euthanasia is rescue too!!!
I do it... and that is not a brag at all, infact I'm ashamed to say it but who else would be making the hard decisions??? Unfortunately its the sad part of rescue... i just don't post about as i don't want to be reminded every year that this cat and that cat died because of my decisions...
Just as a side note to the above, yes i am a cat person, i love cats! I would not be doing what i do if i didn't like cats...
My heart breaks a little each time i have to do but i deal with it in my own way and just keep it to myself...
Please think before you dump cats and dogs or any animal for that matter...
Please put yourself in the spcas shoes before judging them..
Please stop assuming every single animal taken to the SPCA will just be euthanized, be positive about it... don't just look at the negatives look at all the positives too like proper homes for the animals...
