Khanya College hosted a 2 day residential workshop with community health activists on The Political Economy of Health.

Participants unpacked the the economic and political sources of poor health in their communities and worked together to create practical solutions.

Khanya College - Anti-Bullying workshop

The anti-bullying workshop for schools aimed to understand the sources of bullying, how and where bullying takes place from the point of view of bullies, victims of bullying, and those who witness bullying.

More than just understanding the sources, the workshop was also about finding collective ways to respond to these issues and to create safe spaces for youth to learn

Thank you to the youth for their openness and for sharing their stories with us. It is through sharing that we begin to find solutions.

TBs have been writing their SHORT STORIES for the 2026 Jozi Book Fair Short Story Competition. The theme is Education for Liberation Going Back To Our Soweto Roots.

PBs are writing their Poems on how they see and understand the world around them.

Khanya College: Women, Health & GBV Public Dialogue at PUSH, Eldorado Park

Today, 78 women and youth gathered at PUSH in Eldorado Park for a public dialogue.

In our society, women still carry the heaviest burden of unpaid labour at home and in communities. Women and youth spoke about how social determinants of health, like poor housing, unemployment, lack of education, and violence against women, leave them feeling oppressed and bearing the brunt of poor health.

The big question was: Is there really a cause to celebrate Women’s Day?

Women and youth shared their experiences around health and GBV, in communities and at school, and discussed how to begin organising for better health conditions in their communities.

Comrade Maria van Driel, the Khanya College Director, speaks about the importance of cultivating a culture of reading and writing to empower women and youth. Comrade Maria emphasises that literacy enables women and youth to understand and respond to the issues they face in their homes and communities and set the tone for what to expect in today’s public dialogue.

Khanya College Fun Day at PUSH, Eldorado Park

The fun day provided a safe space for young people to just be and enjoy themselves.

PBS, school youth, and out-of-school youth gathered for a day full of games and learning. Activities included soccer, drawing, painting, chess, reading, open discussions, and watching movies.

This is a movement of critical thinkers and readers and fun directly to communities.
