More Than Bread NPO No. 318-013

Community outreach. We aim to provide food, compassion, and dignity to those in need within the Eastleigh and Edenvale areas. C.

We currently feed between 55-65 people, 3 times a week... our goal however is to empower people to feed themselves by teaching skills and equipping them to do so More Than Bread: Nourishing Body and Soul

Mission
At More Than Bread, we believe that nourishment and health are fundamental rights for all. Our mission is to keep the homeless healthy and nourished, while also creating opportunities for

employment and empowerment. Vision
Our vision is to create a community where everyone has access to nutritious meals and the chance to rebuild their lives. We aspire to be a bridge for the homeless, offering them not only food but the possibility of a better future through support, employment, and care. Focus & Cause
Our primary focus is nourishment and health. We provide wholesome meals to anyone in need within the Eastleigh and Edenvale areas, striving to ensure no one goes to bed hungry. Beyond food, we work towards creating sustainable pathways for employment for the homeless, helping them regain their independence and dignity. Target Audience / Beneficiaries
We serve anyone who finds themselves in need of a meal in the Eastleigh and Edenvale regions. There are no specific requirements — if you’re hungry and need help, we are here to offer support. Whether it's a family facing hard times, an individual struggling to get by, or someone experiencing homelessness, we aim to help them all. Geographical Reach
Our services are focused on the Eastleigh and Edenvale areas, extending a hand to the local homeless community and anyone in need of a meal or basic health care. Key Partnerships & Collaborations
We are deeply grateful for the meaningful collaborations we’ve built, which allow us to further our mission. Our partners include:

SA Harvest
Nautical Fish and Meat
Gas Boys Edenvale
Mr. Austin
Chris Pavli (Cyprus)
Jason Brandt (New Zealand)
Paul Steyn (USA)
Additionally, we’ve received invaluable support from friends, family, and well-wishers across the Edenvale community and beyond. History
More Than Bread was founded during a challenging time for its founding members, Tatum and her husband. Both unemployed, they recognized that despite their own struggles, they had a roof over their heads and a warm meal every night. Inspired by this, they decided to share what little they had with the homeless. Initially, they allocated part of their family’s meal budget to cook extra food for the homeless, and what started with just a handful of people quickly grew into something much bigger. As word spread, the demand for food increased, and so did the provision. More Than Bread evolved into an ongoing initiative, driven by a sense of purpose and a calling to serve. It was clear that this mission was one of divine inspiration, as the organization grew to meet the needs of an ever-increasing number of hungry individuals. Values

Compassion: We believe in treating every person with respect and empathy, regardless of their circumstances. Community: We are committed to strengthening the community by offering support and creating opportunities for all. Sustainability: Our goal is to not only provide short-term relief but to help individuals create long-term solutions for themselves, including employment and self-sufficiency. Gratitude: We are grateful for the support we receive from our partners and community and are committed to using those resources wisely to serve those in need. Goals
To continue providing nutritious meals to the homeless and individuals in need. To expand our employment creation efforts by building partnerships with local businesses and organizations. To foster a more caring and supportive community in Edenvale and Eastleigh, where no one is left to face hunger alone. Get Involved
We encourage individuals and businesses to partner with us to help make a difference. Whether through donations, volunteering, or offering job opportunities, every contribution counts. Together, we can do more than just feed the hungry; we can help them rebuild their lives.

"🚨 HELP US KEEP FEEDING HOPE! 🚨

Our trusty 'Breadwinner', a 1997 VW Polo, is on its last legs 😔. For years, it's helped us deliver MORE THAN BREAD to 50-70 homeless neighbours several times a week. But now it needs our help! We have been unable to feed for the past 2 weeks.

Repair costs: R8000 thus far. Estimated total costs closer to R15000
Every rand brings us closer to keeping our mission rolling!

💡 How you can help:
- Donate towards repairs
- Spread the word

Let's keep showing our community they are valued and seen! 🙏

I stopped to let one of the guys know that we wouldn't be doing food today because the starter motor caught fire last night.... he gave me some weaves to sell. Absolutely insisted so that we can have some money for the repairs... 25 bundles... he could do with the money more but he clearly has everyone else in mind... my heart is overwhelmed and grateful
Thanks chap!

We would like to thank all the generous souls who have donated in cash and and food supplies to our cause over the year.

Thank you! The Lord bless you and yours and cause the sun to shine upon you!

A big thank you too, to our son Jon and our other child Tynoe for helping with veggie preps and cooking and pot carrying and cleaning. And thanks to Shaun Thomas and Kayla and Shariffa Chetty and Viquel Da Silva and our son Caleb for their help with preps from time!

Thank you to Khuli and Tynoe and Kim for availing themselves to help hubby dish and serve food (I stay home in rainy or cold weather)

Thanks Daniel and Steph for always stepping in to deliver the food when our old faithful car is off the road.

Happy new year! May the year ahead be full of joy and love and laughter.

I have been terrible at posting pics on here (will spam everyone shortly), but we still do meals for the homeless and those in need. Our last meal for 2025 was Christmas day...

We are on a short break, some R&R for the family... Meals will return to normal EOM...

Our lives have become so busy that we seldom take time to rest and recuperate... so as you go into this weekend, take what you need and meditate on it, receive it, give thanks for it.

Today we mourn the loss of one of our guys, Terrance...

You were tired, and God saw it, medicine couldnt make you stay when your heart had given up and we saw the light going out of your eyes... we werent there when they took you to hospital in that ambulance, against your wishes but we hope it eased your last days...

RIP Terrance... the Lord comfort your family and give them peace...

Shaun and Tate

I was chatting to Stephanie and she told me she knows of 2 more spots, near her with at least 20 homeless people... she is keen to add another day... I'm good with that and or just increasing what we cook other days... however, to do that, I would need more equipment....

If anyone can assist us with getting stuff for our wishlist in order to make this possible, we need
an additional industrial 2 plate stove with gas bottle and gas, and possibly another big pot or two... a huge colander... 2 steel ladles with hooks...

And of course we would need to increase supplies (God has been super faithful, and we trust he will continue to provide)...

We would probably need a couple of dishwashers for the pots too... u know the two legged time lol...

And ultimately, we would one day need a venue to actually cook from, coz these stairs got Shaun Ross working hard lol... we would use this venue to also teach some of the women in the area to cook for the homeless with a view to actually turning it into something that could generate income for them (thanks Zoe Christine Jade and aunty Charmaine, got an idea from u on Sunday, I will be exploring that and prayerfully it turns into something).

Please let us know if you can assist in anyway. We can provide an npo certificate at this stage and hopefully soon that tax letter for donors (I forget what its called)...

Thanks and blessings
