Florida Rd UIP The UIP manages Florida Rd public space so as to enhance the experience of this iconic Durban location.

The rejuvenation of Florida Rd began in 2013 as a result of the efforts of local property owners, businesses and community groups, who have banded together to form the Florida Road Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP). A legislated and representative body, the UIP has motivated, lobbied and worked with the eThekwini Municipality to collectively manage public space in Florida Rd in order to grow and su

stain property values, ensure business prosperity and create a high quality of life for all the area’s users. The Florida Rd UIP levy is collected via the City's rates system and paid over monthly to the UIP. This levy is used to deliver:
- Security through the employment of two capacitated security officers in a dedicated vehicle that patrols the area 24/7
- An extra weekend foot patrol service of two officers 6pm-6am on Friday and Saturday nights
- Direct links to private patrols who manage the residential initiatives in the surrounding areas
- A team of three cleaning and greening staff working on a rotation basis seven days a week
- A structured communication system to all members
- General precinct management, which includes continual fault reporting and follow up with the municipality. Faults are logged on a UIP management system and followed up on a regular basis until repaired.
- Lobbying for municipal infrastructure and optimising service delivery through the establishment of operational partnerships with the various municipal departments

As levy collections increases, through voluntary residential and business contribution, as well as through the expansion of the UIP boundary, so the UIP will begin to deliver on the next level of its' mandated services, that being place-making and marketing.

Take a break from exams & bring the whole family for an afternoon of fun, creativity, and community this 16 June from 12pm – 4pm. Enjoy a variety of FREE activities for kids and teens, including games, chess, a jumping castle, painting and colouring, and a lively talent show.

Please be advised that, after six years of continuous reporting by the UIP and affected property owners regarding the damaged stormwater pipe on Eighth Avenue, the Municipality has finally agreed to address and resolve the issue.
The planned works will include the removal of the existing damaged pipe, the installation of a new stormwater pipe, and the upgrading of the stormwater infrastructure within the affected area to improve drainage and prevent future issues.
This is a significant milestone and a positive outcome resulting from the ongoing efforts and engagement of all parties involved.
Further updates will be provided as the project progresses.
