Four patrollers in two vehicles were deployed across the Malvern Policing Precinct during the early morning hours.

02:44 – The area was patrolled and found to be all in order (AIO).

02:36 – Dogs were barking at the corner of Ritz and Unicorn Roads. No suspicious activity was observed.

02:39 – A male was observed walking along Richmond Road towards the M7 informal settlement area.

02:40 – The area was patrolled and found to be all in order (AIO).

02:07 – A male was observed walking along St Augustines Road towards his home in Hillary. He appeared to be intoxicated.

03:07 – A burst water pipe was reported at No. 132 Chester Road.

01:23 – A male was observed walking along Park Road and was asked to leave the area.

03:18 – An open driveway gate was observed at No. 9 Fifth Avenue.

00:45 – The area was patrolled and found to be all in order (AIO).

00:58 – At KFC on Malvern Road, in the Ethelbert Road area, a male seeking a place to sleep was asked to leave the area.

01:47 – SAPS members were observed conducting patrols.

02:10 – Level Up and Circle of Friends were closed. Vehicles remained outside Joe’s Pool Bar. SAPS SR 04 attended.

02:15 – Musketeers was closed.

02:17 – Noble Lounge remained open, and staff were observed leaving the premises.

02:24 – Punters Arms was closed.

02:25 – Barcode remained open, with three vehicles still on the premises.

03:14 – No Metro Police vehicle was observed stationed at the M7 Bellville truck stop.

04:00 – Patrollers conducted a stand-off at Malvern Park.

04:20 – A white Volkswagen Polo stopped while patrollers were conducting a stand-off at Malvern Park. The driver stated that his employer’s son had allegedly been kidnapped from Ground Zero and that he was checking local ATMs. The vehicle subsequently drove into the Engen service station at Pick n Pay before leaving the area. This information was reported as relayed by the driver and was not independently verified.

*14. MOUNT VERNON*

01:05 – Romeo 87 reported significant pedestrian movement along Victoria Road towards Freemantle Road.

*SUMMARY*

Operation Night Watch continued across the Malvern Policing Precinct, with four patrollers deployed in two vehicles.

We also had a deployment of members last night due to a possible threat and reports of unrest in the Durban C*D and other parts of eThekwini, all Malvern CPF members were activated for duty from 20:00 until 05:00.

Some members were deployed, while additional members were placed on standby to strengthen the operational presence and support community safety.

Malvern CPF also participated in an online meeting with the Acting Police Commissioner of KZN, the District CPF Chairperson and CPF Chairpersons from across the district to discuss the situation.

Patrollers monitored residential areas, business premises and key access routes, recording observations and reporting matters requiring attention.

00:45 – Corner of Clark Road and Dale Road A male and a female individual were observed standing in the roadway, smoking and conversing. Patrollers advised them to move inside the premises for their safety.

01:35 – School Lane A male individual was observed emerging from a footpath and was approached by patrollers. He stated that he was on his way home and appeared to be highly intoxicated.

01:31 – M7 No Metro Police presence was observed monitoring the truck stop area at the time of the patrol.

02:50 – Ray Lunn Road The driveway gate at No. 12 was found open.

01:58 – Conabor Road An apparently intoxicated male individual was observed sleeping inside his vehicle outside Musketeers Bar & Restaurant.

02:05 – All Liquor Establishments were observed to be closed.

04:40 – Maim Road, opposite Engen by PNP An individual carrying various items was observed walking along the road. Upon noticing the patrollers, the individual ran into the M7 camp. The individual appeared to be the same person captured on CCTV footage earlier that night in connection with the theft of a water meter in Holland Place.

*REQUEST FOR REGULAR AND ACCOUNTABLE LAW ENFORCEMENT INTERVENTIONS AT THE PRASA M7 CAMP*

We request that law enforcement authorities, in collaboration with PRASA, implement regular and coordinated interventions at the camp, particularly during nighttime hours.

Repeated reports of individuals entering the camp at night remain a concern. A sustained response is required to investigate these incidents, address any unlawful activities and prevent further occurrences.

*This matter cannot be left to community patrollers to address independently.*

Operation Night Watch continued across the Malvern Policing Precinct, with patrollers monitoring local streets, identifying potential safety concerns and recording observations for follow-up where necessary.

Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant, secure their properties and report suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.

FOUR patrollers, operating in two vehicles, were deployed across the Malvern Policing Precinct.

*INCIDENTS AND OBSERVATIONS*

*01:05 – C*D | Main Road*

An individual was observed in the middle of the road appearing to strike a piece of metal against the roadway. Members attempted to make contact; however, the individual moved into the bush in the direction of the informal settlement.

*01:15 – Parkside | Oxford Place*

A report was received of a water leak on Fairlight Road. Members observed water flowing heavily from Oxford Place onto Fairlight Road. Two leaks were noted in close proximity outside 4 Oxford Place, with water flowing towards properties on Oxford and Fairlight Roads. The fault was logged under reference F261007/2691.

*01:35 – Flamboyant Park | M7*

An individual, identified as Brandon, a resident of Mount Vernon, was observed walking in the centre of the M7 towards Bellville Bridge. He was carrying multiple bags of cans which he stated he had collected in Clairwood. Members instructed him to leave the M7 and return home. The individual was encountered again at approximately 02:20 on Park Road and was escorted out of the area.

*01:40 – Flamboyant Park | M7*

A truck was observed broken down on the M7 westbound, outside the M7 informal settlement. The driver advised members that a mechanic had attended but had left to obtain water from a nearby garage. Members advised the driver to contact his supervisor and request security assistance.

*01:40 – Poets Corner | School Lane*

An individual was observed walking along the pathway between School Lane and Ethelbert Road. The individual identified themselves as a resident of the area and was advised to make their way home safely.

*01:50 – Moseley | Oliver Leese Road*

An individual was observed walking along Oliver Leese Road towards Alexander Avenue. Members greeted the individual, who continued walking and was heard mumbling. A member attempted further engagement; however, the individual became hostile. The individual was advised to return home safely.

*01:55 – Poets Corner | Hillside Avenue*

Members patrolled the vicinity of 2 Hillside Avenue, where cable had previously been reported stolen. The affected area was secured with danger tape.

*02:00 – Malvern South | Vera Road*

A report was received of dogs barking at the corner of Spence Road and Vera Road. SAPS attended, and the situation appeared to be in order.

*02:00 – Poets Corner | School Lane*

A young individual identified themselves as a 16-year-old learner at Bellair Primary School, with their name withheld. The individual stated that they were making their way to a peer’s home to collect books for a test the following day. They were advised to travel safely and remain vigilant. Members noted that the individual was carrying a black canister of pepper spray.

*02:05 – Ridley Park | Ridley Park Road*

An individual was observed walking along Ridley Park Road from Stella Road. SAPS informed members that they had encountered the individual earlier while they were travelling along Stella Road and subsequently escorted them out of the area.

*02:10 – Roosfontein | Wall Road*

Members observed that the corner of Main Road and Wall Road was particularly dark. SAPS advised that electrical work was being carried out in Piet Retief Road, affecting the electricity supply to properties in the area.

*02:30 – Parkside | Fairlight Road*

A garage door was observed open at 19 Fairlight Road. Superguard signage was noted at the property, and Superguard Control was subsequently contacted.

*02:40 – Escombe | Stella Road*

A report was received of copper pipes being stolen from 710 Stella Road. Members patrolled the surrounding area but were unable to locate the suspect. The resident advised that security gates at the property had been tied closed with a rope by the suspect, who allegedly fled with approximately seven metres of copper piping.

*03:15 – North Park | Main Road*

Members stood off at BP Northdene and observed approximately 5 male individuals and 3 female individuals congregating around 3 vehicles outside the liquor outlet. All individuals departed shortly after members arrived.

*03:40 – Escombe | Stella Crescent*

A gate was observed open at 26 Stella Crescent.

*03:50 – Parkside | South Road*

An individual was observed walking along South Road towards Bowker Road. The individual stated that they were a resident of Burlington and that a taxi had dropped them off near Malvern SAPS. They further stated that they were walking to their place of employment in the vicinity of Main and Blundell Roads. They were advised to use Main Road and were escorted out of the area. The individual subsequently proceeded in the opposite direction of their stated destination.

*03:55 – Parkside | Vauxhall Road*

A report was received via the Parkside Community WhatsApp group regarding a possible domestic violence incident. Members responded and stood off outside the property. No activity was observed and no contact was made with the residents. Blue Security was also observed standing off nearby.

*04:20 – Ridley Park | Riverplate Road*

An intoxicated individual, who identified themselves as Master, was encountered. The individual stated that they had been drinking with friends further up the road and were attempting to return to the Police Training College. Members provided directions on how to leave the area, after which the individual departed.

*04:40 – C*D | Coronation Walk*

While entering Coronation Walk, members encountered an individual known to them who was carrying a large knife. A member attempted to engage with the individual, who then fled towards School Lane. Members pursued briefly but lost sight of the individual.

*SUMMARY*

Members remained visible across the Malvern Policing Precinct throughout the early morning hours, attending to reported concerns, monitoring vulnerable areas and providing assistance where required.

Residents are reminded to remain vigilant and to report emergencies or criminal activity directly to SAPS on 10111.

FOUR patrollers, operating in two vehicles, were deployed across the Malvern Policing Precinct.

*INCIDENTS AND OBSERVATIONS*

*23:40 – POETS CORNER | LEEWAY ROAD*

A resident from Allenby Road reported witnessing a vehicle stopping and dropping three suspects near the power box opposite his property before driving away.

Two suspects allegedly opened the power box and attempted to start a fire using what was reported to be petroleum. The resident raised the alarm and contacted CPF members and security personnel for assistance.

CPF members and Duncan Security members responded and conducted a patrol of the area. Two suspects were located hiding in the bushes. One suspect was apprehended and handed over to Malvern SAPS. The second suspect fled into a nearby property and could not be located.

While patrolling the area, the same vehicle was reportedly identified on a resident's CCTV footage parked inside a property on Ethelberth Road at the dead end.

The vehicle registration was recorded and submitted for verification. The verification received did not match the vehicle seen dropping off the suspects. A person was subsequently observed inside the property.

One individual was asked to leave the vicinity of Joe's Pool Bar. A second individual who did not know where he was going, was asked to turn around and return home while on Main Road.

M7 was closed at Bellville Eastbound, with traffic diverted towards Sarnia Road. Metro Police were in attendance.

M7 was open through to the N2. Metro Police were stationed at the compulsory stop.

Area patrolled and found to be in order. Private security companies were active in the area. Blue Security was observed standing off at Malvern Railway Station.

*SUMMARY*

The night included a serious incident in Poets Corner involving an alleged attempt to set fire to a power box. CPF members and Duncan security responded, resulting in one suspect being apprehended and handed over to Malvern SAPS, while the other suspects fled the area.

Patrols continued across the Malvern Policing Precinct throughout the early morning. Most areas visited were found to be in order, with private security and Metro Police visibility observed at various locations.

Two water leaks were also reported, including a major leak at the Morrison Road and Charles English Road intersection and another outside 36 Boundary Road.

A white Kia truck, registration CV55ZY-ZN, was parked outside 2 Eileen Avenue. The vehicle displayed CR8 Tools branding. No driver was present.

A driveway gate at 24 Dorothy Road was found open.

*01:15 – RIDLEY PARK | RIDLEY ROAD*

Two males and one female were observed walking along Ridley Road towards Hillary.

*01:17 – M7 | BELLVILLE ON-RAMP*

No Metro Police vehicle was stationed at the M7 Bellville on-ramp during the patrol.

A motor vehicle accident was observed.

One female with a child was observed waiting for an Uber on Ethelbert Road.

A burst water pipe was found at 14 Allenby Road.

Four Security vehicles were parked at a garage on Main Road. Two vehicles were being washed.

One black dog and one white dog were observed running on Riverplate Place.

A second burst water pipe was observed.

Joe’s Pool Bar doors were closed, but patrons were still consuming alcohol in the outside seating area.

The patrons left upon noticing the police approaching. The warrant advised that he would make an OB entry when he returned to the station.

A Metro Police vehicle was parked off at the M7 Bellville off-ramp.

One male stated that he was looking for his girlfriend, who was reportedly intoxicated.

*05:00 – ROOSFONTEIN | CHESTER ROAD*

A report was received requesting assistance. SAPS was contacted for assistance after a resident was found to have tragically taken her own life. All relevant role players were in attendance.

Our sincere condolences go to the resident’s family, friends and loved ones during this deeply difficult time. May they find strength, comfort and support in the days ahead.

*SUMMARY*

Five patrollers were deployed across the precinct, with observations recorded during the early morning patrol.

CPF members were joined by Malusi and Slee from Duncan Security during patrols in the area. Their support and participation are appreciated.

Residents are reminded to remain vigilant and report suspicious or concerning activity to the appropriate authorities.
