💜 June 15 is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 💜

Every older adult deserves to age with dignity, respect, and safety.

Elder abuse affects millions of older adults each year and can take many forms, including financial exploitation, emotional abuse, physical abuse, neglect, and even digital scams. Raising awareness is the first step in preventing abuse and protecting some of our community's most vulnerable individuals.

As professionals, caregivers, and advocates, we all have a role to play in recognizing the warning signs and connecting older adults to the support they need.

Today, we joined WFMJ for our monthly senior segment to shine a light on an important issue during Elder Abuse Awareness Month.

A special thank you to Dominique DeSanti from Mahoning County Adult Protective Services and Melanie Matsouris from the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program for sharing their expertise on the warning signs of elder abuse, available resources, and how community members can help protect vulnerable older adults.

Elder abuse can take many forms, including financial exploitation, neglect, emotional abuse, physical abuse, and scams targeting older adults. By increasing awareness and knowing where to turn for help, we can all play a role in keeping older adults safe and supported.

Thank you to 21 WFMJ for helping us bring this important conversation to the community.
