đź’™ Helping Westchester seniors get the support they deserve!

WDOM Deputy Executive Director and attorney Charlie Italiano, along with Senior Manager Darla Lao-Paula, were on hand at Westchester County Government Senior Law Day on October 8!

Dozens of seniors stopped by our table at the Westchester County Center for legal consultations and to learn more about WDOM’s services, including housing assistance, healthcare guidance, nursing home diversion and more.

We're proud to connect our community with the resources and support they need to live independently and confidently! đź’š

New technology that can assist the blind in everyday life was on display at the statewide convention of the American Council of the Blind in Yonkers this weekend.

Hundreds of sight-challenged individuals and advocates shared what they are doing to advance services for the blind during the four-day convention Oct. 8-11 at The Courtyard by Marriott in Yonkers. The convention included a demonstration on self-driving vehicles that have special features for the blind, including extra room for service dogs, the ability to control everything through the app, and more. Free Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses were also distributed to blind veterans.

Westchester ACBNY leaders Martin Cahill and Rodney Stanford and Board member Maria Samuels, Executive Director of Westchester Disabled on the Move, were among the conference attendees.

Thank you to Senator Shelley Mayer for hosting the recent webinar, “Navigating Medicaid After H.R.1: Understanding the Changes, Helping New Yorkers, and Advancing State Solutions.”

The September 24 discussion helped agencies better understand upcoming federal changes to Medicaid and SNAP and how they may affect the New Yorkers we serve.

At WDOM, we’re working to make sure our consumers understand these changes, know what to expect and have access to help when they need it.

October is Disability Awareness Month. 💙💚

At WDOM, advocating for people with disabilities is at the heart of what we do every day, and we couldn’t do it without the support of dedicated community partners like the Carvel Foundation.

Their continued support has helped WDOM serve people with disabilities and their families, as well as seniors, children and other underserved members of our community through services including housing assistance, healthcare resources, and Medicaid and SNAP enrollment.

We’re grateful to the Carvel Foundation for their years of partnership and for helping us build a stronger, more inclusive community for all.

Do You Know What WDOM Is Really About? Independence.

A disability should not determine where someone lives, how they participate in their community, or whether their voice is heard.

WDOM helps people with disabilities advocate for themselves, remain in their homes, access services, exercise their rights, and live the lives they choose.

That’s WDOM. Now you know us—help someone else get to know us, too. Share this post!
