This past Saturday we bid adieu to our Session 3 high school interns. This resilient group was met with 3 big tasks. They replenished many of the woodland paths you walk on throughout the garden. Miles of wood chips!
Down in the Stumpery, at the direction of Liz Dreeben, the interns created a dead hedge that meanders throughout the vast wonderland of fanciful tree stumps.
We cannot forget their time in the Ornamental Veggie Garden. The interns tended to the veggie garden, weeding, harvesting, planting a cool weather crops, and after the last harvest, they cleaned out the veggie garden and topped it off with composted soil for the winter months. All harvests went to food banks around Yonkers & Mt Vernon.
We also had a visit from Senate Majority Leader, Andrea Stewart-Cousins. She was quite impressed with our internship program.
Untermyer’s garden crew will miss this wild bunch, as when faced with any task of difficulty, they faced it together as one with an outrageous sense of humor. Many laughs were had. Our crew will miss y’all!!! The veggie garden AND our break room will be pretty quiet these days ahead. Thanks for making the time fly Session 3’s!!
