Today is a day we have prayed for, hoped for, cried for, and believed would come. And today, we can finally say itโ€ฆ

GENE OLSONโ€™S CANCER IS CURED. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ˜ญโค๏ธ

After one of the hardest years imaginable, Gene received the news today that we have all been praying for, his PET scan is CLEAR. ๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿ™Œ

There really are no words big enough to describe what this means to Gene, his girls, and all of us who love him. We have watched our dear friend fight through pain, fear, uncertainty, treatments, appointments, and days when the road ahead seemed impossibly long.

We prayed for healing.
We prayed for strength.
We prayed for the doctors and specialists caring for Gene.

We are incredibly grateful for the amazing doctors, nurses, specialists, family, friends, and everyone who lifted Gene up.

Gene, you have been loved, prayed over, worried about, cheered for, and carried in the hearts of so many people this year. We love you so much. โค๏ธ

Your fight has inspired so many of us. Your strength has reminded us that even when we cannot see the way forward, God is already making a way.

Please join all of us at the VFW and everyone who loves Gene in celebrating this incredible news and continuing to pray for him as he begins this next chapter, a chapter of healing, restoration, gratitude, and LIFE. โค๏ธ

WELCOME TO YOUR NEW CHAPTER, GENE. โค๏ธ

We love you more than you know.
We are SO incredibly happy for you.

โญ๏ธ GOD IS GOOD. ALL THE TIME โญ๏ธ

It is with tremendous sadness that I want to share that we said goodbye to an extraordinary woman, Deni Girl Hunter. This morning I found it difficult to find the words to truly capture what she meant to so many of us.

Deni was one of a kind. She was strong, independent, intelligent, and quietly powerful. She never needed to be the loudest person in the room to make an impact. Sometimes, she didnโ€™t need many words at all, you simply knew exactly what she was thinking. There was a strength in her presence that you felt, even when she said very little.

Deni was a shining example of the kind of woman so many of us have been fortunate enough to know, learn from, and look up to. She carried herself with a confidence and authenticity that was entirely her own. She was unapologetically herself, and that is something that made her so incredibly special.

Her contributions to our Auxiliary family, her years of service to other organizations, her fierceness, protection and love for her children and her grandchildren, and the countless lives she touched cannot be measured simply by titles or accomplishments.

Her impact was so much bigger than all of that. She helped shape the people and the organization around her simply by being the person she was.

For those of us who had the privilege of knowing her, there will be an emptiness where her presence once was. We will miss her strength. We will miss her wit. We will miss those moments when one look from her could say more than a whole conversation ever could. And we will miss simply knowing that Deni was there.

This is a tremendous loss, not only for her family and friends, but for our entire VFW Auxiliary family.

Deni Girl, thank you for being exactly who you were. Thank you for the example you set, the lives you touched, and the strength you quietly shared with all of us.

You were truly one of a kind, and you will never be forgotten.

Rest peacefully, Your work here is done, but your impact will live on in all of us who were lucky enough to know you. โค๏ธ

Our deepest condolences and love to Deniโ€™s family, friends, and everyone who is grieving this incredible loss. ๐Ÿ˜”

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธโค๏ธ A MOMENT TO BE PROUD OF โ€” VFW POST 1136 โค๏ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Last night, our own Post Commander Tracy Nagy and Auxiliary Chaplain Kellie Stec were featured on CBS Detroit for the work our Post and Auxiliary are doing to collect donations for the deployed troops from Selfridge Air National Guard Base. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐ŸŽ–๏ธ

We want to send a heartfelt THANK YOU to Tracy and Kellie for representing Post 1136 so beautifully and for helping shine a light on something that means so much to all of us supporting our service members who are away from home. โค๏ธ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’™

The truth is, none of us do what we do for the accolades. We do it because we believe in taking care of our veterans. We do it because itโ€™s the right thing to do.

But every once in a while, it sure is wonderful to see that work shared on a broader stage. And last nightโ€™s CBS Detroit feature gave our entire Post and Auxiliary an opportunity to celebrate the incredible generosity of our members and our community. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

From the people who donate, the other Posts and Auxiliaries that brought us their donations, to the people who collect and deliver, to everyone who simply says, โ€œWhat can I do to help?โ€ this is what District 4 and Post 1136 is all about. We love you! ๐Ÿฅฐ

08/14/2026

Our VFW Auxiliary is already collecting donations to support the deployed troops out of Selfridge Air National Guard Base, and we are incredibly grateful for the generosity and support we have received from our members and community. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ“ฆโค๏ธ

โญ๏ธ AND โญ๏ธ

We are now hoping to extend that support even further. Thanks to the suggestion of VFW Post 1136 Auxiliary Chaplain Kellie Stec, we are currently working to establish communication with the Ombudsman for the USS Abraham Lincoln so that we can find out exactly what the sailors aboard the ship need and the proper way to get donations to them. โš“๏ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

We want to make sure that anything we collect is truly needed and can actually make its way into the hands of the sailors who are serving so far from home. Once we receive guidance and know what is needed, we will share that information with our membership.

This is simply a heads-up that we are working on another way to show our deployed service members that they are NOT forgotten. โค๏ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Whether they are serving from Selfridge or aboard a Navy carrier far from home, these men and women are making sacrifices for all of us. The least we can do is remind them that their communities back home are thinking about them, praying for them, and standing behind them. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธโค๏ธ
