I wrote this for someone I love. This Pride Month, I would like to dedicate it to anyone who has struggled and to all those who helped them along the way.
It would be mine if I could take it
If you would give it,
If we could heal by taking each otherโs wounds
And holding them until they were sturdy scars
Returned to you with all the strength that comes from being healed.
You would feel no pain.
And if the dark unstitched you
Thread by trembling thread,
I would gather every loose shimmer
And weave them back into your name
Softly,
So softly the night itself would listen.
If your sorrow spilled,
I would cup my palms beneath it,
Let it warm my skin
Like something sacred and unnamed,
Until it remembered
That even tears know the way home.
And should your heart wander
Through its old ruined corridors
I would walk beside it
With lantern-light patience
Not to guide
Only to glow
Until the shadows eased their grip.
Give me what trembles
What bruises
What still speaks in the quietest voice,
And I will tend it as though it were dawn
Learning how to rise again.
And when you reclaim it
Your mended, luminous self
It will rest in you like a secret constellation
And I will stand beneath it
Hands open to the sky
Grateful to have witnessed
Your becoming.
