Members, take a moment to be inspired by Dolores Huerta. She began as a teacher, couldn't ignore her students coming to school hungry, and became one of our movement's most powerful voices for workers. Her work in the classroom and on the picket line is a reminder of what we can do when we organize.

Dolores Huerta began as a teacher who couldn't accept her students coming to school hungry, so she became an organizer and changed history. Today we mourn a giant of the labor movement and a true friend to educators and working people everywhere.

I saw this Letter to the Editor in today’s paper by former school administrator Kim Qualls, and its message truly resonated with me:

> "Elected officials do not have to agree with their constituents. But accountability requires being willing to hear them. Public service should be about the work, not the optics."

Throughout this campaign, I have worked tirelessly to maintain a strict wall between my professional role as an educator and my campaign activities. Taxpayers and educators deserve to know that public offices, staff time, and public resources are treated with complete integrity and never blended with political campaigns.

The Regional Office of Education is meant to be a dedicated service hub supporting our local schools, teachers, and students. When elected leadership prioritizes transparency, welcomes constructive questions, and puts the focus back on doing the actual work, our entire educational system benefits.

I am running for Regional Superintendent to bring that exact standard of professional integrity, fiscal responsibility, and student-first leadership to McHenry County.

This is not an easy decision for any union council to make, but we stand firmly behind Cahokia Federation of Teachers 1272. If you are unfamiliar with the situation facing our IFT brothers and sisters, we welcome you to follow their page and reach out as solidarity starts with understanding.

🚨 BREAKING: CFT FILES 10-DAY NOTICE OF INTENT TO STRIKE 🚨

Today, September 14, 2026, the Cahokia Federation of Teachers, Local 1272 officially filed its Ten-Day Notice of Intent to Strike with the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board.

THIS IS NOT A STRIKE.
But it is the legally required step that puts a strike on the table.

Our contracts expired. We went through mediation. The District declared impasse and imposed a contract. And 15 months, we still do not have a successor agreement.

CFT members have continued showing up for their students and their community while fighting for a fair contract, fair working conditions, and respect for the people who actually make our schools work.

We would rather be at the bargaining table reaching an agreement.

But we will not bargain against ourselves.
We will not be bullied into silence.
And we will not stop fighting for our members.

Superintendent McCall and the Board now have a choice:

COME TO THE TABLE.
GET SERIOUS.
BARGAIN A FAIR CONTRACT.

Because THE CLOCK IS TICKING. ⏰

A huge THANK YOU to all the members of the MCFT Local 1642! You made yesterday's social event a success and it is a step forward in strengthening this union.

We were also glad to be joined by (in alphabetical order) Karen Battaglia for IL Senate District 32, Dr. Bridget Belcastro for McHenry Regional Superintendent of Schools, and Senator Craig Wilcox. They helped tremendously in picking out raffle winners!

A special thank you to Ortmanns Red Iron Tavern for generously hosting us. We appreciate you opening your doors for our union members.

Solidarity comes in many different forms and MCFT Local 1642 was happy to see solidarity shining bright yesterday! This is what solidarity looks like 💙.
