The GCEA was proud to partner with the GCREA (Retired) to support The Pantry at Rowan!

Thanks to the generosity of our active members, retired members, and funding from an NJEA PEP grant, we were able to deliver two carloads of essential items to help Rowan students who need a little extra support throughout the school year.

A special shout-out to GCREA ESP Committee Chair Lynn Cianci for helping with the delivery, and to GCREA President Sue Clark for organizing a highly successful food drive at the Spring Retiree Luncheon. Your dedication and hard work helped make this donation even more impactful!

Together, we’re making a difference for students in our community.

The GCEA held its final workshop of the year for a group of educators who needed some serious rest and relaxation. Our Living Proud workshop brought together members and allies of the LGBTQIA+ community to share resources, practice chair yoga, and enjoy a sound bath experience that left participants relaxed and ready for the final month of the school year.

Thank you to our facilitator, Carolyn Schulz, and a HUGE shout-out to SOGI Chairperson Heather Whitcraft for organizing a workshop that left members feeling unified, empowered, and, most importantly, rejuvenated as they head into the final stretch of the year.

One of the main catalysts for RIFs, non-renewals, and districts not filling positions through attrition this year is the out-of-control cost of healthcare. This is not a problem created by public educators, but it is one we must address together.

Please take two minutes (yes, only two minutes) to advocate for a solution that does not place higher premiums on our members or diminish the quality of care educators and their families receive.

Join us in celebrating Juneteenth on Thursday, June 11 at the Sakima Country Club in Carney’s Point.

Joy as Resistance: Honoring Juneteenth Through Community and Connection explores the legacy of Juneteenth through the lenses of community, resilience, labor, and joy.

Participants will reflect on the connection between freedom movements and collective action, examine how community care and solidarity sustain us through challenging times, and celebrate the power of joy as an act of resistance and restoration.

Through storytelling, reflection, music, and facilitated dialogue, attendees will leave with a deeper appreciation of Juneteenth’s ongoing significance and the role unions and communities play in creating spaces of belonging, empowerment, and collective care.

Come learn, connect, reflect, and celebrate together!

The GCEA held its Member Appreciation Dinner last week at the Sapphire Grand, bringing together a packed room filled with deserving educators!

This special evening serves many purposes for our association. Not only is it an opportunity to thank our incredible members for everything they do each day, but it also features one of the most exciting parts of the night, our basket raffle! Members had the chance to win from more than 30 amazing gifts and baskets generously donated by our local associations and NJEA Member Benefits vendors.

Thanks to the incredible support and generosity of our members, the raffle raised $2,100 for the GCEA Philanthropic Fund, which provides three $1,000 scholarships to Gloucester County public school students each year.

This year’s scholarship recipients were recognized at our final Representative Council meeting of the year:

🎓 Laurel Rue – Pitman High School
🎓 Kayla Kent – GCIT
🎓 Erin O’Rourke – Williamstown High School

A HUGE thank you to all of our local associations that donated baskets and to every member who purchased raffle tickets to support our scholarship fund. Your generosity continues to make a difference for students across Gloucester County!
