SE4SK Frequently Asked Questions
What is SE4SK?
SE4SK (Special Events for Special Kids) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that hosts free events for children with special needs, disabilities, and medically fragile conditions ages 3โ19.
Do you allow medically fragile children to attend your events?
Yes! We welcome medically fragile children at our events.
Can siblings attend?
Most of our events are for the registered child only. We intentionally keep our events small to help prevent overstimulation and provide the best experience possible for our participants.
Some family events, such as our zoo trips, will allow siblings to attend. If siblings are welcome, the event registration will clearly state that it is a family event.
Why do you ask that only one parent attend?
To keep our events small, we ask that only one parent or caregiver attend whenever possible.
If your child needs two adults in order to have a successful experience, that's absolutely okayโjust let Jami know ahead of time.
Please note that for some "Super Events," we pay admission for parents as well. For those events, we ask that you do not bring additional guests unless previously approved.
What is a "Super Event"?
A Super Event is an event where SE4SK pays for each person attending. Examples include Dave & Buster's, pirate ship cruises, and similar attractions.
Because we pay in advance, if you cancel after the stated deadline or do not show up, we ask that you reimburse SE4SK $25 per registered person.
We understand that emergencies happen, but when several families don't attend, those paid spots cannot be filled by children on our waiting list, and those funds are lost. This policy helps us continue offering these special experiences.
Can anyone volunteer?
Yesโwith a few requirements.
All adult volunteers must pass a background check.
Youth volunteers must be in 7th grade or higher, unless they are volunteering with a parent or guardian.
My background check may show something from years ago. Can I still volunteer?
Possibly.
There is a specific list of offenses that would prevent someone from volunteering. If your offense is not on that list, the SE4SK Board of Directors will review your application and vote on whether you may volunteer.
How is SE4SK funded?
SE4SK is funded through donations, sponsorships, and a few annual fundraisers such as our Basket Auction and Car Show.
We previously held yard sales to raise funds, but as donations have decreased over the years, we now rely heavily on generous sponsors and monetary donations to continue providing free events.
Do you have a list of items you need?
Yes! We maintain an Amazon Wish List that is updated regularly with items we currently need.
How can I make a monetary donation?
We gladly accept:
Cash
Checks made payable to SE4SK
Venmo
Every donation goes directly toward providing free events for our children and families.
Do you have a website?
Yes! Visit us at se4sk.org.
While we do have a website, I'm only one person, so I primarily use our page and email to keep families updated on upcoming events, registrations, and announcements.
