This week, we joyously celebrated devoted Rotarian Art Duffy's 90th birthday, and he made a grand entrance at the Rotary meeting in style in a limousine as a surprise. He was warmly greeted at the door with balloons and a birthday cake. Mayor Michael Concannon had a proclamation ready for Art and declared May 13, 2026, as Arthur Duffy Day in the City of Woburn. State Representative Richard Haggerty also presented Art with a proclamation from the state house.

Veterans' agent Bob Davis was our guest speaker and gave us an inspiring update on the regulations and benefits that Woburn veterans can receive.

Congratulations Art!

This week our guest speaker was Sharon Marrama from Connor's Kindness Project. The project was founded by her 12 year old grandson during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was a challenging time for a lot of children and Connor wanted some way to give back. Kindness Kits consist of hand-delivered boxes of carefully thought-out items, meant to be entertaining and comforting for children in challenging situations. The project reminds us that there is good in the world even at times when we are faced with conflicts and challenges. The ongoing goal is to help others while also spreading positivity , one act of kindness at a time. Over 16,000 kits have been delivered to date. Last week we had our annual Rotary lunch with the senior athletes of Woburn Memorial High School. Our guest speaker was Mike Parziale. Mike was a long time wrestling coach and mentor of many Woburn wrestlers. He spoke of his wrestling career at Woburn High which was an arc that started with meager beginnings and self doubt to becoming a very successful wrestler and one of the state's best. Overall, he concluded his junior season with a 34-8 record to raise his career mark to 81-26 as he ranks second in single season wins in school history and fourth in career victories.
