Message from the Cobbossee Watershed District regarding Wilson Pond Dam operations the week of June 8thTexTech Industries will be conducting an inspection of the Mill Pond Dam (the one next to their mill, downstream from Wilson Pond Dam) on Wednesday, June 10th. The inspection is to be done with the Mill Pond dramatically lowered in order for them to see the condition of the dam. From TexTech:“Please be advised that TTI will be temporarily lowering and draining The Mill Pond on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, to allow for routine Mill Dam inspection and maintenance work. This is a standard procedure to ensure the continued safety and proper operation of the dam.The drawdown is expected to last one day, and water levels should return to normal shortly afterward.” (CWD note: the reference is to water levels in the Mill Pond.)Here’s what this has to do with Berry/Dexter/Wilson Ponds’ level:TexTech will need to close the Wilson Pond Dam early on Wednesday, June 10th, so that water from Wilson Pond will not fill up the Mill Pond during the inspection and maintenance. You may notice the Berry, Dexter, Wilson level drop a little before that.Their plan is to:1.Increase the outflow from the Wilson Pond Dam, either Monday, June 8th, or Tuesday, June 9th, to lower Berry/Dexter/Wilson Ponds a little, probably only one inch, to provide storage for rising water when the dam is closed (step2).2.Close the Wilson Pond Dam to the maximum extent possible early on Wednesday, June 10th, to keep the downstream work area dry. The level of the ponds behind the dam will then start to rise.3.Re-set the Wilson Pond Dam to the appropriate outflow at the end of the day on Wednesday, June 10th, to allow for the level of Berry/Dexter/Wilson Ponds to be appropriate for early summer.CWD supports the inspection and maintenance of the Mill Pond Dam. A structurally sound Mill Pond Dam enables water management at the Wilson Pond Dam to better align with water management goals for Berry, Dexter, and Wilson Ponds.Questions may be directed to Cobbossee Watershed District at [email protected], or 207-377-2234, regarding the Wilson Pond Dam and the ponds behind it. This is a TexTech project and some questions, including regarding the Mill Pond, may need to be directed to TexTech.
