Come on, friends… who do you see in this photo? 💙

MICHELLE!!!

Not only does she look absolutely incredible, but she is getting stronger every single day. Even while focusing on her own healing journey, her love for our 8 Waves students remains as strong as ever.

Today, she stopped by just to say hello to the kiddos she loves so much, and seeing their faces light up was something special. ❤️

Michelle has poured countless hours into serving children and families through 8 Waves, and we are so grateful for her heart, her dedication, and her determination.

What Are You Carrying?

The truth is, we never really know what someone is carrying.

The mom smiling at school pickup may be worrying about how she’ll pay rent.
The student making everyone laugh may be battling anxiety.
The neighbor who seems distant may be grieving a loss.
The friend who says, “I’m fine,” may be carrying more than they can handle.

At 8 Waves, we see every day that behind every person is a story. Some stories are filled with joy. Some are filled with challenges. Most are a little of both.

If you’re carrying something heavy right now, please don’t carry it alone. Reach out. Talk to someone. Ask for help.

And if someone around you seems a little quieter, a little distracted, or a little different than usual, choose kindness. You never know what battle they’re fighting.

We all carry something. Let’s make sure no one has to carry it alone. ❤️

Today our campers sorted stories, stretched their imaginations, made new friends, and had a blast.

☀️ Tomorrow marks the first day of 8 Waves Summer Camp, and we couldn’t be more excited!

For the next six weeks, our students will spend their summer learning, exploring, creating, and growing alongside caring mentors, teachers, and volunteers.

This summer, students will:

🌱 Build and care for a garden while learning how fruits and vegetables grow

📚 Strengthen reading and literacy skills through storytime and creative writing

✏️ Receive support from a certified teacher to help prevent summer learning loss and encourage academic growth

🎨 Explore creativity through hands-on art and enrichment activities

⚽ Stay active through outdoor games, sports, and team-building experiences

🤝 Build confidence, friendships, and life skills in a safe and encouraging environment

🚌 Enjoy a fun and educational field trip every Friday, exposing students to new places, experiences, and opportunities

💙 Want to be part of their summer story? We’d love to have you volunteer even if it’s just for one day. Whether you can help with a field trip, read with a student, serve a meal, or simply show up and encourage a child, your presence matters.

Because of partners like W.O.J.S.L., local children will have access to enriching experiences, caring mentors, educational activities, meals, and opportunities that help them build confidence, discover their potential, and create lasting memories this summer.

50 Bikes. 50 Families. Countless Opportunities. 🚲❤️

Did you know transportation is one of the most overlooked barriers that families face in hard times?

Today, that barrier became a little smaller.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of Skanska USA Building Inc., more than 50 bicycles were distributed to local children and families in our community.

For many of us, a bike represents fun.

For a family facing financial hardship, a bike can mean:
🚲 Getting to work
🚲 Getting to school
🚲 Accessing childcare
🚲 Reaching the grocery store
🚲 Attending after-school programs
🚲 Greater independence and opportunity

Transportation impacts nearly every aspect of life. When a child or parent has a reliable way to get where they need to go, doors begin to open.

Today, we watched children beam with excitement as they picked out their bikes. We watched families leave with more than transportation—they left with opportunity.

At 8 Waves, we know we cannot do this alone. Every child we serve, every meal provided, every tutoring session, and every safe space created is made possible through the support of incredible community partners.

A heartfelt thank you to First United Methodist Church of Winter Garden for opening your doors and allowing us to use your space for summer camp and after-school programming. Your team has truly wrapped their arms around the children and families we serve, and that kind of partnership makes a lasting difference.

We are deeply grateful for your generosity, encouragement, and belief in our mission. Together, we are creating opportunities, building relationships, and helping children discover that they are capable, ready, and full of potential.

Seeing our students walk across that stage this past week was one of those moments that reminds us why we do what we do.
