🚨 🚨 Great first week, but a lot to do!! Thanks for everyones help, we spent the last several days flying in over 12,000 lbs of goods to Treasure Cay. Pilot Ken worked tirelessly. Goods included: medicine and medical products (stocked medical center) ; water (everyone’s biggest desire); generators (2nd) ; food (3rd); baby food and baby products; lady and hygiene goods; clothes; blankets; gas; tarps; and many other needed things.
Thanks to Marina and Jim we had a daily surprise meal for many dozens of people (what a hit) of Subway, Chic-Fil-A, and McDonalds.
Special Thanks to Orlando Health, we were able to provide Treasure Cay with not only medical goods but 2 doctors that spent time at clinic. Mostly down to bumps and bruises, with continued care of existing conditions. All critical patients were removed. We also did a house visit to Haitian community, and they were very appreciative. The stories they had to tell of flood waters in there church were terrifying.
The stories of all our friends like Gordon, Ivan, Clevie, Trevor, Mickey, Chris, and others also terrifying. Although banged up and in light of it all their spirits were amazing.
We were able to get Trevor a Satellite Phone, so he could connect Treasure to the outside world. Trevor, Mickey, Johnson & Johnny have been incredible for the community. Trevor is and will work with Officer White, the Clinic, the Defense Force, and locals to keep them connected.
No power, water, sewer or cell service. We were able to meet with a BEC forman who outlined an initial game plan for Treasure, which as he said will include a temporary generator to overhead power. He said existing power plant is fine and will power south to Sandy Point, and a temporary generator will be put near Coopertown to provide power to the north. We all hope this will progress.
Most roads have been cleared.
We were able to visit the water plant and meet with the water and sewer folks, they have already had design engineers at the plants. Generator fired up at the plant north of airport. Unfortunately storage tank was destroyed. Again let’s hope for the best.
Mark was great help with security discussions with locals. Treasure Cay was very safe and calm the last several days while we were there. Defense Force visibly increased daily and Mark and I made some great contacts and friends with all security areas. One member of the Defense Force said he and others of his team were there to stay, so that was encouraging.
Many many locals are leaving Abaco for a time to sort things out. Sad but most have nothing left with it all literally being washed away. All buildings have severe structural, roof and water damage including: schools, stores, restaurants, gas stations, churches, marinas, fire stations. Nothing left untouched.
We spoke with Johnny & Jennesse they are fine, and get out of Johnny’s way Nippers is for sure coming back. Already starting to coordinate efforts.
We all need to figure out the next phase of getting heavy equipment and building materials to Abaco. I have spoken to many people who have nothing on their minds but getting back to Abaco.
Special thanks to all the team on the ground. Everyone we know has stepped up to help, total amazing. Much love!!
