Picture Post 2: Resource Fair fun! 🤗
🎉This past Saturday we held our 2nd Annual T.A.F.A. Walk our Way (W.O.W.) Autism Walk & Resource Fair 🥰🧩 When T.A.F.A. began with a mission to highlight autism awareness, acceptance and inclusion in northwest Connecticut, it was paramount that we identified ways to purposefully embed this vision into our community. Events like this remind us just how far we have come in creating greater awareness, a network of support, meaningful community engagement and inclusive opportunities for our families. We are so incredibly thankful for each and every person who shows up for our organization, our children and our families to make it possible ❤️🧩
Special thanks to:
-Action Wildlife Foundation for making this event possible and sharing your amazing animals and property with us ❤️ 🦓
-Batchy Brew and Nonna Lucia’s for the amazing coffee and food goodies to keep everyone going ☕️ 🥐
-Not Gonna Lie for the amazing live music that always includes our kiddos 🎤🎶
-Jimmys Bounce House for providing bounce house fun for the kids 🏰
And our amazing resource providers 🤩👏:
Connecticut Family Support Network (CTFSN)
Hartford HealthCare
Wellmore Behavioral Health
Brooker Memorial
FAVOR, Inc.
Epilepsy Foundation of Connecticut
Connecticut Alliance of Foster & Adoptive Families

🎉A little Thursday morning inspo 👏😊
(please ignore our floors that are being re-done from burst heating pipe damage 😅)
Tying shoes was something that we really thought might always fall to the back burner as a goal. Connor’s autism impacted his development in many areas, making fine motor tasks like tying just as difficult as speech. When other goals and objectives took precedence, we put shoe-tying out of our minds and embraced awesome slip-on and Velcro shoe options that are luckily available today. However, his amazing team at Meliora Academy suggested that he was ready to re-visit a shoe-tying goal at our most recent PPT, and because his OT and entire school team are so incredibly dedicated to his overall success he continues to excel by leaps and bounds 🙌🥰
Ensuring Connor’s highest level of independence in every facet of life that we are able to not only gives him a greater sense of pride and autonomy, but makes him less vulnerable because he does not have to rely on others for assistance.
We had to brace ourselves for so many things Connor might never do given the implications of his diagnosis. Told to prepare for what may be a life without any functional communication, life skills, or connection. Yet he is out here every day absolutely crushing those limitations with appropriate and unwavering support.
For any parent feeling defeated today, or struggling to accept putting another goal on hold; just know that you are not alone and it doesn’t have to mean that this particular struggle is forever 🙏🏻
Not right now, does not have to mean not ever.
Our kiddos can make meaningful progress across the entire lifespan, no matter their age 🧩❤️

To celebrate this momentous victory, I see a sneaker shopping spree on the horizon 🤗👟🛍️
