Chartered in 1963, The Rotary Club of Winder has served as one of Barrow County's premier service organizations since our humble beginnings!

We meet on the 1st and 2nd Thursdays of the month at Winder First United Methodist Church.

May in Rotary is focused on Youth Services and what better way to close out May and begin June than to hear from one of our local non-profits designed to support Georgia’s children. Last Thursday, we were honored to have Rebecca Youngers of Easterseals as our guest speaker! She shared about all of the wonderful things Easterseals does from early childhood education to autism support to seniors mentoring youth. It was truly remarkable to hear the different services their nonprofit offers here within our Northeast Georgia community!💛💙

Club members attended Rotary District 6910 Club Leadership Learning Seminar (CLLS) and are excited about what they learned. They are bringing back some fresh new ideas for The Rotary Club of Winder, too!

We echo what one attendee stated, “Just when you think you know all there is to know about Rotary, guess what…YOU DON’T!”

Congratulations to the Class of 2026! The Rotary Club of Winder is proud to award these deserving students with a college scholarship of $500 each.
Members met the students and each one read their winning submissions to the club.

Rotarian Dr. Al Darby hosted today’s speaker: Rotarian Dr. Dallas LeDuff,
Superintendent of the Barrow County School System. Dr. LeDuff gave us an update on the BCSS and reminded of us ways that we can support local students through the Mentor and Partners In Education programs.

As one of Rotary International’s focus areas, it is a privilege to be able to support education here in our community.

Club members celebrated Cinco de Mayo while supporting the 2026 Boys & Girls Club of Winder Barrow County Great Futures Dinner.

This year’s speaker was former Olympian, Javianne Oliver from Monroe, GA. This track & field star was such an inspiration to everyone! Her hard work and determination to overcome obstacles reminded us to never give up and run toward your goals!

It is with incredible pride the Rotary Club of Winder announces that our very own, Steffanie Rivas Sorrells, received the SERVICE ABOVE SELF award at District Conference on Friday May 1, 2026.

Since the beginning of her Rotary journey, Steffanie has given selflessly to ensure the impact of Rotary is felt within our community and beyond. When you think about service and helping others, her name is virtually synonymous. She has served in multiple club & district roles, including a term as Assistant/Area District Governor! 💛💙

From mission trips to Guatemala to raising money for local non-profits to working hands on to distribute food to local families, Steff serves our community in so many impactful ways. She is the physical embodiment of Service Above Self!

The Rotary International Service Above Self Award is the organization's highest honor for individual members, recognizing only up to 150 Rotarians or Rotaractors WORLDWIDE annually for their extraordinary, sustained voluntary efforts to help others. This award highlights those who embody Rotary's principal motto by demonstrating a personal, hands-on commitment to humanitarian service.

Service Above Self award:
• Eligibility & Selection: It is internationally competitive, with a maximum of 150 recipients selected each year from over 1.3 million members, typically limiting recipients to no more than ONE per district. 🌎
• Focus on Service: The award honors those who go above and beyond in volunteering time and talents to make an impact on humanity, rather than just fulfilling club duties. 👏
• Nomination Process: Candidates must be nominated by a District Governor or a Past District Governor, usually with deadlines in September or October. 🗳️
• Significance: It is distinct from other honors like the Service Award for a Polio-Free World or the Rotary Foundation Distinguished Service Award. 🎖️

Earlier this month, we had the pleasure of having Suzanne Moses of Wimberly Roots join us as our speaker to share all of the incredible things they are doing within our community! They not only serve as a community kitchen for many of our small businesses, but also host a wide variety of classes from diabetes education to youth cooking skills. The work they do helps educate and inspire people across generations in Winder and Barrow County! Suzanne even shared with us the power of a donation our Rotary Club had made recently as it helped fund a cooking class for students. Being able to view photos of our impact and hear testimony was so inspiring!💛💙
