Annual Olympic Event for adults over 50. Fun, fellowship, and competition!! The Georgia Golden Olympics is a statewide event for adults 50 years of age or older.

The event provides an opportunity to participate in amateur sports competition, to learn new leisure skills, to discover that physical activity is for all ages, to meet new friends and to share good times. More specifically it is an opportunity to have fun!

Two athletes. One shared love of sports. One goal: Tulsa 2027!

For Darlene Beale-Thomas, the Senior Games are a chance to compete, reconnect with former teammates and enjoy the special camaraderie of sports. An All-American and Hall of Fame basketball player, Darlene has competed all over the country (and the world), but says the Senior Games hold a special place in her heart.

After years of watching Darlene compete, her husband, Calvert Thomas, decided it was his time to join! Competing in Basketball at the Georgia Golden Olympics was a new challenge for the former college football player — and a rewarding one. Calvert’s team took home gold and qualified for his first National Senior Games. “It was a blast, I had a lot of fun. And it goes to show you, you’re never too old to keep competing,” he shares.

Darlene also stepped outside her comfort zone this year, trying Shot Put for the first time in addition to Basketball. Her training paid off, and she secured a gold medal and a qualifying spot for her fourth trip to Nationals!

Congratulations to Calvert, Darlene and ALL the Senior Games athletes who have taken the first steps on the ! We can’t wait to see you all next summer at the 2027 National Senior Games presented by Humana!

The 2026 Georgia Golden Olympics are underway! Pickleball competitors are bringing skill, determination and sportsmanship to the court as athletes come together for an exciting week of competition. The Games continue through September 26 in Clayton and Henry counties. Stay tuned for more moments from this year’s Georgia Golden Olympics.

The Georgia Golden Olympics are 30 days away!

Join us for an exciting celebration of the Georgia Golden Olympics with the Torch Lighting Ceremony and Parade of Athletes on Thursday, September 24, 2026, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the meadow at Lake Spivey Recreation Center, located at 2300 Walt Stephens Road, Jonesboro, GA 30236.

This free, family-friendly event welcomes the entire community and will feature a live DJ, food trucks, and an inspiring parade highlighting athletes from across Georgia. Come enjoy an evening filled with music, energy, and local pride as we celebrate active living and the spirit of the games.

Clayton County is ready to welcome seniors from across Georgia.
State Representative Rhonda Burnough, who represents District 77, shares why she is especially excited to see the Georgia Golden Olympics come to our community, and why this event means so much to her personally.

As an active participant at Clayton County Senior Services, Rep. Burnough knows firsthand the importance of staying active, connected, and engaged. From participating in Tai Chi to walking with an intergenerational community group, she understands how healthy living keeps our minds and bodies active while bringing people together.

Now, she’s inviting participants, volunteers and spectators from across Georgia to come experience all that Clayton County has to offer.
