🥃 WHISKEY — Four Years Waiting for Someone to See Her
Whiskey is almost 7 years old, and she has spent four long years of her life at the shelter.
Four years of watching other dogs come and go. Four years of waiting for someone to choose her.
And the hardest part? Whiskey is an absolutely amazing dog.
She is athletic, fun-loving, incredibly smart, and obedient. She walks beautifully on a leash and genuinely enjoys being with her people. Once Whiskey knows you, you’ll discover a dog with so much personality and so much love to give.
Whiskey’s challenge has always been other animals. She is not cat-friendly, and historically, she has not wanted the companionship of other dogs. Those challenges have made finding her the right home extremely difficult.
But Whiskey hasn't given up — and neither have we.
One very special WAG volunteer has spent significant time working with Whiskey, and together they have made real progress with her reactions around other dogs. Because of that progress, we now believe that with the right, experienced dog parent and carefully selected companion dogs, Whiskey may be able to live successfully in a home with other dogs.
That doesn't mean Whiskey is going to be everyone's dog. It means we're finally seeing possibilities that we couldn't see four years ago.
At WAG, we are doing everything we can to protect Whiskey's mental and emotional well-being while she waits. We give her enrichment, exercise, attention, training, walks and opportunities to simply be a dog. Our volunteers know her. They love her. They advocate for her.
But a shelter cannot be a permanent home.
No matter how hard we work to make her days better, Whiskey deserves something we simply cannot give her here:
A person of her own. A couch of her own. A routine. A home. A life.
Four years is far too long for any dog to wait.
Whiskey doesn't need someone to feel sorry for her. She needs someone willing to see the wonderful dog underneath the challenges and give her the time, structure and patience she deserves.
If you are an experienced dog owner who is willing to take the time to get to know Whiskey and help her continue the progress she's already made, please don't overlook her.
She has been waiting long enough.
Whiskey is ready for her next chapter. She just needs someone willing to open the book. ❤️
