Amazing Oaks for the Kingdom is multifaceted. 1st side is a horse rescue. 2nd side builds confidence in teens and anyone searching by empowering them to be an integral part of the corral. 3rd side knits the community together by fulfilling corral needs.

Squaring out the arena is tough….as I knew it would be. But seriously, it shouldn’t be that hard! I worked on it a bit today, then stopped when it was time to ride🤠. Took the boys into Flagstaff and went for a 10 mile long ride with my neighbor and her friend. It was fun…but long. My poor knees were angry. Allsvin did fantastic, my only complaint was he switched sides on his own, thus getting the lead rope under Falcons tail. Falcon didn’t appreciate that. He didn’t run off though, so that was good. He was semi patient until I fixed it. Falcon also didn’t like Alì being in line right behind him, which was necessary at several spots. Falcon kicked at him a couple times. I put a stop to that one. So on this ride Falcon was acting up more than Allsvin. Check out the pics! There is a deer in one of them.

Didn’t feel like venturing far from home today. So when my friend/neighbor asked if I wanted to go riding, I said yes. It really is a dream come true having so many trails, with so many trees, and horse friends all so close to home. We did encounter cows again today, Falcon was certain they ate horses, especially the light brown ones(they were camouflaged)! I handed Alí off to Kim, just in case Falcon decided to make a run for it. We actually managed to pass all cows with zero horses being consumed. I wish I could have snapped a pic of Falcon giving me the side eye.

Anothe step down!

I found myself getting anxious yesterday, this is getting real and the hard work is on the horizon!
Maybe I should say harder work, yesterday’s work was pretty hard.

I moved the horses to the front yard yesterday. I figured it would only take a couple of hours. Fast forward to 6:00 pm as I was dragging the stall mats into the temporary location. Wowsers, I forgot how heavy those things are. Alì and Falcon got to hang out by the horse trailer and eat all day. Alì was being his prankster self, he kept untying Falcons lead rope from the trailer. I had to move the rope outside of his reach. Thankfully Falcon had no desire to leave his buddies side!

The boys were very excited to be in a new spot and proceeded to see what all they could eat. They are also being exposed to ‘new’ things. They have to get used to cars…cars driving by 😂

On to the next thing, RANCH STRONG!💪🏼

Well tomorrow turned into two days, work was busy!

Sunday was funday! I loaded the boys into the trailer and took them to the forest. They were both so excited to go. I had no trouble catching or loading them. When we first started out on the ride Alì was curious and excited, I had to remind him to stay level with me. I even got him to canter/run with Falcon and I! As the rider went on, he lost his confidence and dropped behind Falcon. Falcon didn’t appreciate that and kept swatting Alì with his tail😂. The boys behaved beautifully….for most of the ride. There was a horse eating log that Falcon was refusing to walk by. And towards the end Falcon wanted to go faster and Alì did not. I was being pulled in 2 directions. But once we saw the cows, everything settled out.

We saw a couple new things this ride. Our forest is getting a much needed thinning(orange slashes mean the tree stays), and we came across a large piece of machinery. The boys were suspicious, but got over it quickly, since it wasn’t running. We also heard elk, but never found them 😢. At the end of the ride, we came across cows. I was actually worried what Falcon would do, he wasn’t fond of them when spotted across a fence. Both boys did well, at first we just walked past them, showing then it was no big deal. Then we turned back and faced them head on. There were plenty of snorts and side eyes going on. But once they realized the cows weren’t predators, the boys became curious and wanted to follow the cows. The cows were completely oblivious to us.

Im so thankful and blessed to have the horses and be up here.

I had plans for Thursday. Very specific plans for Thursday. Get Aspen to school, run errands in Flagstaff, get Aspen, go home, move the horses to the front yard, till where the arena is going, feed, eat, go dancing, and get to bed.

As they say, best laid plans gone asunder. The day ended up being about the horses. And that is exactly what they(and I needed).

The farrier texted Wed night saying the boys were due for a trim and asked if he could come on Thrs. I said yes, hoof care is important. So the boys got trimmed. Falcon did well, as always. And Alì did better than he did last time. He is getting so much more comfortable with hoof care! We didn’t need to put him in a corner, and I think he only pulled his hoof back once or twice! Im so proud!

After the farrier left and I got back home(Aspen did need to get home again). I realized it’s been 8 weeks since I have ridden. I wasn’t going to let it be 8 weeks and 1 day, so I threw a bridal on Falcon and hit the neighborhood ba****ck! It was a short ride, but good for the soul. Falcon was suspicious of the neighborhood and snorted about it the first half. Alì got to go for a walk and was curious about everything. I ran with him a bit, so he could trot. He listened to everything I said and followed my commands immediately. Such a good boy!

That ride relit a flame, and I was able to go riding again today…details on that will come tomorrow.

Manure Managed!

Another step towards the permanent arena down, another….I’m not gonna worry about how many to go. I’m gonna celebrate my win today!

The compost piles needed to move from the back, since that’s where the stalls will be. The compost piles are now in their new/permanent home. Eventually I will add enclosures; make it look nice for neighbors, and visitors,…and me 🤠I decided to move them towards the front of the property to make it easier for people to get it, once it’s ready. The process here takes longer than it did in Tucson. In Tucson, I had the luxury of plumbed in water. I could use water to speed up the composting process and only have a $40 water bill. Here, I have my water hauled in and pay 4 times that. So yeah, not gonna use hauled water for compost. So Im letting them compost naturally. I add to a pile for 4 months, then flip that pile and start a new one. The rain and snow will provide water for the breakdown. I am starting my 3rd pile today and will flip all piles at the end of January. That’s when my oldest pile will be ready, just in time for spring gardens! Yeah yeah. Im gonna be the neighbor that brings you compost again! So excited!

Ranch Strong!

I am thankful for YouTube. It allows me to fix my things and save $$$!

A couple days ago it was time to fix the tractor/ Sprout and get it running again! When i got the tractor back here, it ended up getting fuel in with the oil. This hopefully happened when we tipped the tractor up to get it in Beastie(I will find out today when I check the oil). I changed the oil(1st time ever changing oil) and Im glad I did, it came out black and gunky. I even learned a belt trick to get the stuck oil filter off! Sprout had clean oil and was ready to go. However, the tractor didn’t wanna start. So I looked up what it could be, it was either lacking fuel, air, or spark. The three things needed for combustion! So I got a fuel filter, new spark plugs, and a new air filter. I replaced the cheapest one first, fuel filter! And guess what, SPROUT STARTED RIGHT UP!(I can return the other two things) I took him around the block to work out all the gunk, spread the slime around(put that in the tires), and hopefully recharge the battery! Sprout is now ready to help me move the compost piles today!
