Shelters have been full of hounds for months that hunters cannot afford, and some did the responsible thing and surrendered hoping for homes🥹 where in past years, and other counties without open admission policeis, these dogs have met a much worse fate😞

It’s hunting season, we aren’t here to debate it! But we are a dog hunting county! Please let dogs actively hunting pass thru and hunt! Do not interfere! If a dog has actually showed up and STOPPED hunting - meaning they have bedded down, they are injured, or they are causing an issue on your property please attempt to contact the owners FIRST via their ID tag (if you can safely).

If you cannot handle the dog or there is a safety concern - then contact animal control! While we do get lovely hunting failure hounds from time to time, most are very hard to place! Their drive and disposition doesn’t make always them ideal house pets! So please don’t commit “friendly theft” under the pretense that you are saving them for just doing what hounds love to do!

We are open admission and will not turn them away, but please give their owners a chance first. There are good and bad houndsmen just like there are good and bad pet owners… please don’t judge an entire community based on the actions of some! We interact with all kinds at our job and for some they are just as loved as your fluffy🥰 Help us keep them doing what they love and keep them out of our overcrowded shelters 🫶🏻💕
