The Times Leader recently highlighted the Inclusive & Wellness Trail at Ferrwood Music Camp and the community partners coming together to help bring this project to life.

The Luzerne Foundation is pleased to support this CAN DO Community Foundation initiative through the Pasco L. Schiavo Memorial Charitable Fund, alongside AllOne Foundation & Charities, Highmark, and other community partners.

The project will help create new opportunities for accessibility, wellness, and connection at Ferrwood Music Camp.

💚The Luzerne Foundation is now accepting applications for 2026 The Millennium Circle $25,000 grant!

Applications must be submitted through our grant portal and will only be considered if they are accompanied by a nomination from a Millennium Circle member.

The deadline to apply is Thursday, October 8th, 2026.

The 2026 Millennium Circle Advisory Committee will deliberate and select 3-6 finalists who will present at the luncheon on Tuesday, November 10th, 2026 at the Friedman JCC.

Millennium Circle Members will then cast their vote for a deserving charity that will receive $25,000!

The Pasco L. Schiavo Memorial Charitable Fund at The Luzerne Foundation is proud to support a project creating more opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the outdoors, support their well-being and feel connected to their community.

This project is a strong example of what’s possible when community partners come together around a shared vision.

The CAN DO Community Foundation hosted a gathering of camp operators and major donors at Ferrwood Music Camp to review the foundation’s current initiative, the Inclusive & Wellness Trail. Representatives from AllOne Foundation & Charities, Highmark, The Luzerne Foundation, and Camp Orchard Hill joined foundation members to discuss the major fund drive project, with checks being presented. Pictured is a presentation from AllOne Charities Collaborative Philanthropy Program that matched individual donors’ gifts. Major gifts from The Pasco L. Schiavo Memorial Charitable Fund at the Luzerne Foundation, Highmark, and AllOne Foundation were also presented. Earl Berger also led a tour of the main camp building that will celebrate its one hundredth anniversary next year.

The CAN DO Community Foundation identifies meaningful needs, raises the necessary
funds, and completes projects to the benefit of all. This current
initiative—the Inclusive Wellness Trail—is an ambitious and
much-needed project that has just begun and is truly unique to our
area.

The need was first recognized as support for children attending an inclusive camp program that accommodates those with autism and other disorders alongside those who are typically developing, keeping the family together in one program. It was then recognized as a community-wide need.

The Inclusive Wellness Trail is an impactful, community-driven effort designed to give residents and visitors, a free, welcoming place to move, breathe, and reconnect with nature. Built around
ADA-compliant access for the entire family, sensory-friendly activities, and restorative native landscapes, the trail will offer safe spaces for physical activity, mental wellness, and quiet
reflection for people of all ages and abilities.

By strengthening local stewardship, expanding year-round outdoor opportunities, and creating a lasting resource for the region, the trail delivers a legacy of wellness, inclusion, and community
vitality.

Our team was pleased to join the Greater Wyoming Valley Chamber of Commerce for the ATHENA Panel Luncheon, an inspiring celebration of leadership, connection, and the women who help strengthen our community.

We enjoyed hearing from ATHENA honorees Ruth Borland, Katie McCarthy Lambert, Kathi Bankes, and Sarah Borland, who shared their perspectives on professional leadership and empowerment.

The Luzerne Foundation Board Member and 2009 ATHENA Award recipient Elizabeth Graham moderated the conversation, guiding an engaging discussion and sharing her own leadership and perspective.

At The Luzerne Foundation, we believe strong communities are shaped by leaders who share their experiences, mentor others, and create opportunities for those around them.

Danielle shares her experience as a member of our second cohort, while Lindsay offers a look at the year-long program and how nonprofit leaders can be considered for the next cohort.

Yesterday, our Nonprofit Accelerator cohort completed Learning Session #6, and their commitment to growth continues to inspire ! 🌟

Participants presented and peer reviewed projects intentionally designed to grow their organizations and deepen their community impact. A special thank you to our guest speaker, Alison Woody, for sharing her expertise and helping our cohort strengthen how they communicate their work and impact.

We are looking forward to our September Meet the Funders session, where participants will put their bite-sized storytelling into practice and share their vision for growth directly with funding partners.

We are so proud of the work these organizations are putting in and how far they’ve come. Next stop: Meet the Funders! 💙
