Monday Morning Birding 🐦☀️

Today we’ve got not one, but TWO Brown-headed Cowbird visitors stopping by together! These social birds are often seen foraging in pairs or groups, especially around open fields and feeders. 🌾
Cowbirds are famous for their unique nesting strategy, laying their eggs in other birds’ nests and letting the foster parents raise their chicks. Nature keeps things interesting. 👀

Nature’s version of white noise- persistent, steady, loud enough to fade everything else away. Sound on, press play, and breathe 🌧️

Fun Fact Friday #23 🌿🐢

Meet the adorable Three-toed Box Turtle! These turtles are named for the three toes on their back feet and can live for decades in forests, fields, and woodlands across the Midwest. Some box turtles have even been known to live over 50 years!
This little friend has already enjoyed exploring around our cabins… have you? 🌲🏕️

At Camp Wyman, we’re all about being outdoors, trying new things, and making meaningful connections. To help keep everyone safe, we’re proud to partner with the Alliance for Camp Health and SC Johnson, A Family Company as part of the 2026 initiative.
With simple prevention steps, we’re helping protect our community from tick-borne illness- so the focus stays on the fun, not the worries.

Yesterday, during a period of extreme rainfall, Camp Wyman experienced a brief instance of flash flooding from the creek that runs through the property. For approximately 40 minutes, a portion of the main road near the dining hall was temporarily inaccessible.

Importantly, alternative routes allowed safe movement around the affected area, and at no point were guests or staff at risk of being trapped or required to cross floodwaters. No buildings were impacted, and all facilities remained safe and available for shelter throughout the brief event.

We are committed to providing a safe, well-managed environment for every group we serve. Our team is prepared with established emergency procedures and clear communication plans that allow us to respond quickly and effectively in the event of severe weather.

Monday Morning Birding 🐦☀️

Today’s visitor is a Brown-headed Cowbird! These birds got their name because they used to follow roaming bison and cattle across open fields, snacking on insects stirred up by the herds. 🐄🌾

Fun Fact Friday 🌿

This week’s featured animal is Nutmeg’s favorite: the Turkey Vulture! 🖤
Turkey vultures have an incredible sense of smell, which is extremely rare in birds. They can detect gases released from decaying animals from over a mile away, helping them locate food and keep ecosystems clean by recycling nutrients back into the environment.

You can often spot them soaring in circles with their wings held in a slight “V” shape called a dihedral. They use warm air currents to glide for hours while barely flapping their wings. 🪶
