With bouldering temperatures behind us, and .brand are hard at work making sure there are new sport routes for those summer afternoons at Rockwoods. Here they are placing anchors and scouting bolt placements on two new ones.

A few easy ways to be a solid human outside:

Stay on the trail.
Pack out tape and trash.
Brush your tick marks.
Respect seasonal closures.
Keep the base area chill.

It’s simple stuff — but it keeps access open for everyone.

Climbing access doesn’t just happen.

Bolts wear out. Anchors corrode. Trails wash away. Land agreements change.

A lot of what keeps your favorite crags open and safe happens quietly — behind the scenes — by climbers who care enough to put in the work.

That’s a big part of what Beta Fund exists for.

Preserve. Educate. Inspire.

This one’s for the volunteers.

The folks who showed up early, got dirty, swung tools, and put in the work so these places stay open and climbable. None of it happens without people willing to roll up their sleeves and care.

Big thanks to everyone who pitched in this past year.
More Trail Days are coming up soon - stay tuned if you want to get your hands dirty and be part of it.

Your new favorite hoodie does more than keep you warm — it helps protect local climbing access.

A portion of every item in our new merch store supports Beta Fund’s work building trails, replacing hardware, and expanding access in the Midwest.

It’s gear for good. Stop by the link to check it out: https://www.bonfire.com/store/beta-fund-merch-store/

This year was a quiet but important one for Beta Fund. Most of what we do happens behind the scenes. We’re not chasing the spotlight. We’re just quietly doing the work.

We welcomed new board members, continued building relationships with government agencies, hosted multiple trail days, and put up fresh routes at Rockwoods. We spent real time at Washington State Park doing the unglamorous work that keeps climbing areas open. We also launched fresh merch, supported local events.

None of this happens without this community. Thank you for the support and generosity.

Looking forward to 2026.

BETA Fund strikes again.

We just put up two new routes at Rockwood Reservation.

Snap Crack & Pop is a 5-bolt 5.9+ route. A tricky start leads to blocky climbing to the second bolt, then it goes right into the first crack. When that ends, head left to the base of the second crack and up that to either a hand jam or compression finish.

Wheat from the Chaff is a 5-bolt 5.9. It has a slabby start to a small roof, traverses right on the face through two bolts, and finishes with an awkward mantle guarding the chains.

Stay on route and as always wear your helmet.

Both routes are live on Mountain Project.

We’re hosting a trail day at Washington State Park on December 13, and we need YOU to show up. Help keep this area open and accessible. We’ll be maintenancing and reinforcing worn sections of trail. As well as general cleanup to protect one of the best limestone crags in the area.

If you’re planning to join us, bring:
• Closed-toed, sturdy shoes
• Pants
• Water
• Lunch
• Gloves + eye/ear protection (we’ll have extras, but bringing your own is always better)

If you care about these spaces, this is the moment to step in. Come help us take care of the places we love.

Happy Giving Tuesday!

BETA Fund is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3), but it still takes real resources to keep our climbing areas open. Your donations directly support the hard costs behind things like insurance, equipment, trail work, bolting hardware, signage, storage, and ongoing area maintenance.

Every contribution truly matters.
Help protect the places we climb — donate now: https://www.betafund.org/donate

The temps may have dropped, but the psyche didn’t.

A few pro tips…
Wear layers you can easily shed between burns.
When rock is wet it can break…be patient.
Avoid using heaters or open flames to dry holds.
Protect the trails: muddy trails can erode easier.
Pack it in, pack it out.
