ESCOT (Emanuel Steward’s Champions of Tomorrow) provides kids a place where they can excel in Athletics, Academics, Leadership, and Community, so they can stay on the right path, become anything they want, and give back as productive members of society. The ESCOT Youth Development Program is a unique approach at not only training kids to box, but also provide for them the necessary tools to become

better students and better stewards of their community. A long-time vision of former undefeated professional boxer turned business owner – Jeff Styers, the Kronk Gym has now experienced the reality of helping kids in these various ways. Shoring up the efforts, is former professional featherweight title contender –Erskine Wade who is the lead trainer, mentor, and father figure for these kids who are longing for a better way. In addition to the well-equipped boxing gym, directly across the hall is two small classrooms where the kids will be required to work with tutors and finish their studies prior to working out. Furthermore, it will be required that these pugilists in training, will become positive stewards in their community by assisting in various ways to make their neighborhoods better places to be. If we create the next World Champion – great, but we’re more concerned about creating better people through teaching core values and life-lessons that can be used inside the ropes, in school, careers, or life in general.

What an incredible turnout we had yesterday!

We kicked things off with a fantastic discussion about our upcoming field trip, but the real highlight was our back-to-school pep talk. I reminded the kids of a powerful truth: at the very beginning of the school year, every single student starts with a perfect 4.0 GPA. From this moment on, their success is in their own hands. It is entirely up to each individual student to take control of their study habits, their attitude, and their preparation.

At ESCOT, we teach our students that FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION! We know that failure is inevitable at some point in life. But what you do after you fail is what truly makes the difference. We never give up. We will do whatever it takes to succeed.

What an incredible turnout we had yesterday!

We kicked things off with a fantastic discussion about our upcoming field trip, but the real highlight was our back-to-school pep talk. Today marks the official start of our back-to-school program at ESCOT Youth Development Program! We had an amazing turnout, and we were honored to receive special visits from Westland's Director of Housing, Joanne Campbell, alongside our wonderful Westland Community Police Officers.

To kick off the school year, the kids and I sat down to discuss the importance of appropriate school behavior and maintaining a positive attitude all year long. This new school year brings fresh opportunities and a blank canvas for every student to become the best version of themselves. I know deep down that these kids have exactly what it takes to succeed, and they are going to have an incredible year ahead. Let’s go, ESCOT!

What an incredible day at ESCOT to end our summer with a Fun Friday!

We are so deeply thankful to our amazing community for stepping up to make the day unforgettable. A huge shoutout to Marinas for their generous pizza donation, and to local artist George Eberhardt for dropping in with an absolute feast of additional pizza, bread, and ice cream! The kids were also treated to delicious rice crispy treats donated by Lisa Bartos.

Because of this incredible community support, we were able to send the kids home with food and treats to enjoy later this evening and into tomorrow. It is truly the greatest feeling to know our kids are so well provided for and loved by those around them.

 What a spectacular, action-packed day! We kicked off the fun with an awesome game of kickball, but the excitement didn't stop there! We were thrilled to welcome two very special guests: former science teacher and CrossFit champion Kimberly Papp and her husband, Larry! Kim and Larry brought a thrilling mystery to our kids, along with some expert fingerprint training to help them crack the case. The children had an absolute blast putting on their detective hats and learning all about the science of fingerprints. A massive, heartfelt thank you to Kim and Larry for your incredible, ongoing support of our program. You both always bring so much energy and fun to our program.

We had a very special visit today from Brian Brooks, COO of Majic Window! Brian is a true friend of our program and a long-time supporter, and today he blessed us with another generous donation of $5,000.But even more valuable than his financial support is the powerful message he shared with our kids. Brian grew up right here in Norwayne and faced his own set of heavy challenges as a teenager. He chose to turn his life around, give 110% effort, and take control of his future so he could care for the people he loves.Today, he is doing all of that and so much more—including constantly giving back to the community that raised him. Today, our program had a very special guest! We were honored to welcome Joanne Campbell, Westland’s Director of Housing and Community Development. Joanne spent time reading with the kids and sharing an incredible lesson on the history of our city. Understanding where you come from is so important, and Joanne always helps bring that history to life. She is a true friend to our program, a wonderful mentor to the students, and a shining example of what community leadership looks like. Thank you, Joanne, for everything you do for us
