D-Town Paranormal D-Town Paranormal (Detroit). Professionally Investigating Claims of Paranormal activity since 2014. We post current events and other related topics.

We do home investigations and historical places. Welcome to D-Town Paranormal. Established in 2014. It all started with 2 group members from "Wayne County Paranormal" in 2009 and decided the group had to grow and was committed to its obligations of starting a paranormal investigation group. We decided to reform and start a more committed group that is out to find the truth. With a professional bac

kground, we strive at what we do and the main reason we started this team is to help those in need and Research the Paranormal. As of 2022 we are now again a small team. We are Jeremy and Lisa, and we still have Kevin who lives in Ohio. We plan on keeping it small but may recruit if we need more. We also incorporate music and horror into our page. But it's not only the Paranormal. We also follow all mythology beliefs and tales, that we believe contribute to the paranormal knowledge and experience so many have. We all have had personal experiences of our own and have been doing investigations for about a total of over 12 years now, before we established a team. We actively do research and expand our knowledge of spirits and Gods of the paranormal world. We have the knowledge and understanding to comfort those who are having a hard time with the paranormal, and those who feel troubled. Everyone in the group has about 10 or more years of doing investigations, learning, and teaching of the paranormal. We all believe in and have opinions about different religions. We do believe in god and a few of us believe in the pagan religions and Nordic mythology, so we have knowledge and Respect for all peoples beliefs. We know there are good spirits out there who need help to find their way. However, we also know there are troubled spirits and evil spirits, that are out just to do bad things. We want to find them and Research and find answers and send them on their way if that's what the client requests.. We are here to help!!!! We are out to find the truth....

Our mission is to go out in the communities and expand our team making it possible to help people through the unknown. When we visit your home we take a skeptical sidestep, allowing us to disprove claims before we begin to give help to those that are proven to be haunted! Our next would be to set up another investigation if no evidence is found. If there is a proven haunting beyond reasonable doubt, we take steps to help those individuals who need it or ask for it and we will get you the help you need and provide answers on what to do! We will get rid of any paranormal in your home, or place of work. We will also set you up with someone who can, if it's something severe or out of our knowledge. We work with other teams in our area and abroad as a sign of paranormal unity. We are a small group/organization who are set out to find the truth. We believe we are not alone.. that there are spirits/paranormal activity out there. Let it be our job to find it!! You can go on You tube or watch some movies that have fake paranormal/ghosts in it and now days everything seems to be fake on tv. But we know that there are real spirits out there and we want to find them/help them and the people who are bothered with them.!!! So we and our team can help you understand why they are here, and what spirits are here to harm, or not to harm. We want to help people!! We don’t judge people in any situation and are dedicated to finding the answers through our investigations and researching. Reach out to us today if you have a claim, or a concern. We never charge money for any of our services.

We were never allowed to put new shoes on the table. We were told that it would bring bad luck to our home~Amanda APS

It may have something to do with death, and the idea of placing a new pair of shoes on the table would signify that someone had just died, or you would have bad luck for the rest of the day, quarrel with someone or lose your job. Even among people who are not superstitious, shoes can be associated with contamination. (Wiki)

THE REAL PRIEST BEHIND ‘THE POPE’S EXORCIST’ WAS A FAN OF HOLLYWOOD HORROR FILMS
The Conversation

Joseph P. Laycock, Associate Professor of Religious Studies | May 4, 2023

On April 14, 2023, Sony Pictures released “The Pope’s Exorcist,” a horror film inspired by the life of the Rev. Gabriele Amorth. Amorth served as the exorcist for the Diocese of Rome from 1986 until his death in 2016 at the age of 91.

Catholic exorcism was once extremely rare in the United States and much of Europe, and Amorth played a major role in normalizing the practice. In 1990, he founded the International Association of Exorcists, or the IAE, a Catholic group that advocates for the practice of exorcism and trains new exorcists.

This group has been critical of the way Amorth and his ministry are portrayed in the film. In March, the IAE released a statement condemning the film as “splatter horror.” More importantly, the IAE warned that the film sensationalized exorcism and failed to convey the suffering of those in need of this ritual. However, the Rev. Edward Siebert, one of the film’s executive producers, defended it by pointing out that it depicted a priest in a positive light.

Amorth was a polarizing figure who had a complicated relationship with horror movies. Having researched the history of exorcism, I find it appropriate that a horror film about his life is drawing controversy.

Amorth’s career as an exorcist

Amorth sometimes boasted of having performed as many as 160,000 exorcisms. He also attracted controversy for saying yoga and Harry Potter books can cause demonic possession. In his autobiography, “An Exorcist Tells His Story,” Amorth wrote, “It is thanks to movies that we find a renewed interest in exorcisms.” In other words, exorcism made a comeback because horror movies helped spark public demand for the ritual.

On this point, Amorth is in agreement with religion scholar Michael Cuneo, who argued that “The Exorcist” is largely responsible for revitalizing exorcism. When that film came out in 1973, requests for exorcisms surged. The church, which had regarded exorcism as a source of embarrassment, lacked the experience and training to accommodate this demand. But church authorities have increasingly warmed to exorcism, viewing it as an asset rather than a liability. Unsurprisingly, Amorth named “The Exorcist” as his favorite film, commenting, “Of course, the special effects are exaggerated. But it is a good film, and substantially exact, based on a respectable novel which mirrored a true story." Amorth became an exorcist a decade after the film, and his career evolved alongside horror films. He introduced the 2011 horror film "The Rite” when it premiered at a film festival in Umbria. Like “The Pope’s Exorcist,” “The Rite” is a Catholic horror film inspired by the life of a real priest, Gary Thomas, who traveled to Rome to study exorcism.

“The Exorcist” was directed by Oscar winner William Friedkin. A year after Amorth’s death, Friedkin unveiled his 2017 documentary, “The Devil and Father Amorth,” showing Amorth performing an actual exorcism.

Variety noted that Catholic exorcism and horror films now seemed intertwined “like a loop.”

There’s no such thing as bad press

“The Pope’s Exorcist” takes great liberties with Amorth’s story, earning comparisons to the “Indiana Jones” franchise and “The DaVinci Code.” But “The Exorcist” was also polarizing in its day, with some Catholics praising it as a “deeply spiritual film” and others comparing it to po*******hy.

The Rev. Vincent Lampert, an IAE member, criticized “The Pope’s Exorcist” for focusing more on Satan than Amorth and his ministry. But condemnation from the IAE has ironically boosted media coverage of “The Pope’s Exorcist” and has likely compelled more people to see the film. Opening weekend sales were so good that Sony Pictures has announced a sequel is already in development.

For now, the complicated synergy between horror films and actual exorcists shows no sign of abating. The Conversation
