Today we had the honor to remember our brother, Fire Captain Brian “Sharkey” LeVasseur. His daughter Kaylie was presented with a very special portrait drawn by artist Rachel K. Leavitt. Kaylie was 15 when her father died unexpectedly. She is now 21 and has graduated college with a bs in psychology/behavioral health, masters of social work focusing on PTSD/trauma, LMU peer support recovery specialist, has spoken at national children’s grief, symposium (and invited to speak to congress), has 7 specialized psychology certifications focusing on trauma, military, and first responders, wrote a book about grief/loss and her dad, published work in the Oxford abstracts, 2 international internships in mental health and domestic violence, and is currently working on a guidebook for family members who have lost a loved one in the fire department. Artist Rachel K. Leavitt generously donated her work and was inspired to give back to family members of our fallen after learning about the Emerald Society. Rachel also gives 50% off to military and first responders as a thank you for their service. We are very proud of Kaylie and very grateful for Rachel’s time and effort for this special presentation. Sharkey is certainly smiling. .rkl.collection 🙏🦈👨🚒🇺🇸☘️
