Several detained men launched a hunger strike to protest inhumane conditions and cruel treatment, and in response, ICE is threatening them with solitary confinement, threats of tear gas, threats of violence, and immediate deportation. At least eight people have died in ICE custody at the Adelanto facility since 2011. Adelanto is just one of the 8 detention centers currently operating in California, with private firms profiting from these detainments. PWC stands with the hunger strikers and all the detainees, and we call for the immediate closure of these detention centers that mimic concentration camps right in our midst.

"Compassion is not weakness, and dignity is not optional. No uniform, policy, or system absolves us from the responsibility to treat people humanely."
- Rev. Paige Eaves, United Methodist Church, one of the clergy participants in the vigil

Today, on International Domestic Workers Day, we honor the millions of domestic workers whose work makes all other work possible.

From caring for children and the elderly to supporting households and families, domestic workers provide the essential labor that enables our communities and economies to function and thrive.

Today, we celebrate the resilience, leadership, and collective power of domestic workers who have organized and fought for dignity, recognition, and labor rights around the world.

To all domestic workers, we see you, and we value you. THANK YOU for all that you do!

Today, we celebrate Philippine Independence Day and honor the generations of Filipinos who fought for freedom and dignity.

As we commemorate this day, we recognize that the struggle continues. We remain committed to fighting the ongoing impacts of colonialism, imperialism, exploitation, and injustice wherever they exist.

We honor Filipino workers, caregivers, and immigrants whose labor powers our communities and whose collective action moves us closer to a more just and equitable future.

"This is another way that they are actually raising the numbers of deportations. It's clearly unjust because they're not even given a chance to clear their names because there are no charges, there are no prosecutions." - Aquilina Versoza, Executive Director, Pilipino Workers Center

NPR has tracked deported Filipino sailors who say they were accused without evidence of possessing child sexual exploitation material. Almost none have been charged or prosecuted.
