After a February 2024 landslide that closed off traffic from Santa Paula to Ojai on Highway 150 for five months before it was reopened, the hillside over the beleaguered stretch of road will be undergoing more work calling for a partial closure.
Caltrans announced Dec. 5 that “An upcoming long-term lane closure on State Route 150 (SR-150) for crews to work on a retaining wall just north of the city of Santa Paula,” was set to being that day for work crews to establish a continuous 24/7 lane closure between post miles 29.8 and 31.2, which is just north of Bridge Road. Traffic will be controlled in both directions using reversible traffic signals.
According to Caltrans, the closure is expected to remain in place through June 1, 2026, while construction crews complete emergency repairs caused by a series of severe winter storms in 2024. The repairs included removal of debris from the landslide, repairs to multiple storm-damaged slopes, and restoration of drainage systems.
Traffic Impacts
· December 5 to June 1, 2026: Long-term lane closure with reversible signal-controlled traffic.
· No public detours are planned.
Closure schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change. Motorists should expect delays, proceed with caution through the work area, and allow extra travel time.
Caltrans encourages drivers to avoid the area, if possible; if not, follow traffic-control signals, and anticipate extended travel times during construction.

Caltrans reminds drivers to “Be Work Zone Alert” and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.”
At the time of the February 2024 closure, Caltrans estimated more than 3,000 vehicles used the only direct route from Santa Paula to Ojai on a daily basis. The closure left drivers to loop around through Ventura via Highways 126, 101 and 33 to reconnect with the 150 into Ojai. For some, a 14-mile roundtrip commute to school or work became 90 miles.
