This is what football is all about. Although it wasn’t the outcome we wanted, it isn’t always about the score on the board. Thank you Gorham Football for helping us show what football is all about!

Yesterday, I got to witness one of the most heartwarming things I’ve seen in a long time.

Gorham & Westbrook middle school football teams were battling in a playoff game. In the 3rd quarter, with Gorham up 32-0, Westbrooks coach called a meeting with Gorham’s coach. Westbrook decided to forfeit the rest of that game because he didn’t want to risk the kids getting hurt and beat up and exhausted for what he probably felt was a lost cause at that point.

But then, he asked to send both teams off in prayer. This is something not seen much in Maine football. This was beautiful. All of the kids were happy, laughing & praying. No one was yelling, no poor sportsmanship, no anger. Just a mutual love for (insert your god here) and a group of young men with the same goal, while realizing only one teams moves on.

And for today, that was okay ❤️🏈

Editing to add : no one was forced to pray. No one was forced to watch. This was optional.

🏈💙 IT’S PLAYOFF DAY FOR OUR 7TH/8TH GRADE JR. BLAZES! 🤍🏈

Our Westbrook Middle School football team is heading to Gorham today for Round 1 of the playoffs!

🏈 Westbrook Jr. Blazes vs. Gorham

📍 Gorham | ⏰ 1:00 PM

These boys have put in countless hours of hard work, dedication, and determination this season. Through every practice, every game, every challenge, and every lesson, they’ve continued to grow as players and as a team.

Today is another opportunity to take the field together, play the game they love, and show how far they’ve come!

We’re proud of every single one of these athletes and their coaches, regardless of what the scoreboard says.

Let’s wish our Jr. Blazes the best of luck today! Play hard, have fun, support your teammates, and leave that field knowing you gave it your all!

💙🤍ALWAYS PROUD TO BE A PART OF THE JR. BLAZES FAMILY 🏈
