Congratulations to Westbrook Woman's Club Member Jan Emerson!! She was the Grand Marshall of the Westbrook Together Days parade on Saturday June 5.

Jan retired from nursing several years ago, but continued her career as Executive Director of the American Cancer Society Maine for 15 years, followed by Executive Director of Community Health Charities. She finally "retired" in her 80s!

She has been with the Westbrook-Gorham Chamber for about 20 years, leading their scholarship committee and volunteering at WTD for much of that time. She is definitely a VIP in non-profit service and fundraising circles!!

We are proud to call Jan and member of GFWC Westbrook-Woman's Club and GFWC Maine .

Of course Westbrook Woman's Club joined in on the fun and community again this year at Westbrook Together Days! Many of us enjoyed the annual Scout Breakfast put on by Scout Pack and Troop 87, participated in the parade, and had a booth in the circle from which we could enjoy the offerings from the musical stage.

Thanks to RoweWestbrook for providing two beautiful cars for our members to ride it! One of them was the new 2026 Lincoln Aviator, the other a 2026 Hundai Ioniq. Nice rides!!

This year we kept our booth simple with a 50/50 raffle. We appreciate all who supported us by buying your chance to win. The winner was notified and picked up his winnings yesterday afternoon. Congratulations!

Thanks to the committee that works so hard to organize this WTD festival every year. Hope to see everyone back next year with no rain and hopefully somewhat warmer temperatures!

General Federation Of Women's Clubs Maine Southern District Conference and Art Show happened this weekend at Westbrook Community Center. So much talent!!

Thanks to guest speaker Charlotte Allen PT, DPT from Maine Strong Balance Centers. She spoke to us about what is involved with our balance (the internal mechanism), how one can strengthen their balance, and she demonstrated some simple exercises. She noted that exercise is the best thing you can do for your body.

GFWC Maine President Suzanne Raymond offered some words on the current biennium of service to our communities. She hopes to see many of our Southern members at the upcoming State Conference in Bangor on May 14-15. We also welcomed President-Elect Nancy Ames and Vice President Gloria Aurelio. We were so pleased they all could join us!

Art Show!!! Local artists and Judges Caren-Marie Michel and Alice Persons reviewed and discussed the 12 entries from three area High Schools - Westbrook, Gorham and Sacopee Valley.

GFWC Southern District Co-President Anne Scully Newman announced the winners:

1st Place $100: Kaelynn McCuthceon Westbrook
2nd Place $75: Ayden Price Westbrook
3rd Place $50: Kiersten Charette Westbrook
People's Choice $25: Izzy Hamann Gorham

The judges told us that all 12 entries showed wonderful talent and they appreciated the opportunity to see the work of these young artists. They also explained that the winners stood out for the strength of the images; they pull the view in to want to know more. They make you think and ask "what is the story they are trying to tell us?"

Congratulations to all of the students for winning at their local levels and for entering their work to the Art Show this weekend.

What a great time we had at our last meeting on April 7. Homemade Soup Luncheon and Sunshine Bags! Thanks to Refreshment Chair Joyce Cleveland Noonan, her committee, and those who made delicious soups. No one walked away hungry!

After lunch, we packed our annual Sunshine Bags for elderly residents in Westbrook Housing. Thanks to Gerrie Pallang and Ellie Doughty for chairing this effort. A huge thanks to our members who brought in so many great items to add to each bag. At the end of the production line, Gerrie and Ellie added some tissue paper to each bag to make them look very festive for Spring. A wonderful annual project for Westbrook Woman's Club.
